Hi there,

I am going to be purchasing a 22' LCD in the next two weeks. I am a still a bit unsure whether to get a glossy or matte screen. I prefer the colours and sharpness of the glossy screens, but I am worried about straining my eyes. It will mainly be used for working and watching the odd movie on.

Any thoughts on glossy vs matte LCDS?

I prefer matte screens because I sit with my back to a window, but if I did not I would probably go for a glossy screen :)

The glossy clarity is like 100000x better than matte.

I think matte is good for like an office environment, but for movies definitely go for glossy it's amazing!

For the glossy, you have to make sure you get your lighting right or else the reflection WILL bother you. I've got no problems using mine

My vote is for matte.

I have matte to, easier to keep clean, not nearly as much glare as glossy.

+1 vote for matte

I think the glossy is easier to clean than the matte. Samsung provides a handy little cloth. I vote for glossy.

mmm Its a hard one... On my matte lcd, videos seem a bit dark from far away.
Is it better on glossy? When u have light on matte its quite bad is it worse on glossy?

I dont know why but i think i'll vote for glossy.

It really depends on the screen. I've seen glossy that are like mirrors, and then there are glossy that cut out glare... we got some new Lenova notebooks at work with glossy and nobody is complaining.

Tough one

I'd rate go into a store and just go compare for yourself, see which 1 you like better :)

mmm, (hey everyone, I'm new to the forums, but have been a regular reader for past 2 years:p - actually joined to contact Postmanpot to get me one of these new 22" screens)

Bought the Samsung 2252GW from Fontosa (via Post)
Its Glossy, was initially a bit disappointed, but grew to like the clarity it provided ( 22" of mass effect and assassins creed- awesome:D)
Its seems alot clearer than the Matte version. I have the 2243bw at work.
(has a very nice height adjustable stand : though am using VGA on 2243 and DVI on 2253..?)
So as long as you don't have a very bright background behind your back (bright sunny window:D), it should be fine.
Its harder to notice any smudges on the Matte, while Gloss is more noticeable.( but as said there is a nice handy cloth)

Hope it helps.
Not to derail the thread, but anyone know the policy on how many dead pixels warrant replacement of screen? (had one dead pixel on 2253)

:)

I choose Glossy ... the reflection doesn't really bother me ... and there is none at night.

"Welcome to the forums. :D"

Don't forget to drop it off later so I can return it tomorrow. Have to wait to speak to technical/returns, hoping for the best! :)

Anyone know of any good 22' deals? So far the best I have found is the Samsung 2232GW at for R2550 at PC international, the matte version is about R100 cheaper.
