Hi All,

I've a problem on my ADSL line.
I've been a loyal ADSL customer for the last 6 years. When I first moved into the house I ordered ADSL and it got installed withing days with the stable sync speed of 4+ Mbps. My internet usage dropped over time and to save money I later downgraded to the 2 Mbps option. The line was stable for the most part with few issues here and there.

Now with the ADSL pricing continuing to drop I now want my speed to upgraded back to 4 Mbps. Notifying your ISP to do the upgrade was simple enough but Telkom cant get my line to sync at a higher speed. I logged numerous call on the Telkom website and also logged a few calls by phoning the call center. They keep closing the calls without fixing my line. If my line were able to sync at 4 Mbps years ago surely it should be able to sync at that speed now?

After they closed my last call they actually dropped my sync speed to 1.5 Mbps.
What am I to do here?

I think the experts here are going to ask line stats ie noise and attenuation

Phone again, first thing you say is get the manager
Or pm telkomza on this board

Thanks for the advice, I'll PM TelkomZA

My ADSL line stats are as follows:

SNR Margin (0.1dB): Downstream 117, Upstream 90
Attenuation (0.1dB): Downstream 540, Upstream 315
Power Output (0.1dB): Downstream 176, Upstream 131
Rate (Kbps) Downstream: Downstream 1536, Upstream 512

I can see your noise is very low at 11.7 and your other issue is your attenuation which is 54, that means that the exchange is very far from you.

I had very similar stats at you and i couldn't get anything higher then 2mb too.
unfortunately i don't think there is much you can do, unless someone else can provider further info.

sadly this happens :(

same thing happend to me, my max last year was 12mbps,now its 9 and sync at 8mbps

due to more ppl that use the lines, weather, general age all make it weaker

and yah pm telkom za maby he can let somone move your port to a new one hopeing it will be more stable,

do you find that your line stats go up at night?

as mine is like 8db in the day and at 11pm+ it jumps to around 12 then drops again late in the mornings around this time

Your only option is to go to satellite internet.

They come with the same amount of problems that you get on adsl and a hefty start up fee but at least you can get a 4 meg line.

I used Amobia and they were ok.
