May 2005 - WBS iBurst Technical Problems...

OK! English is not my motherlanguage.
You have to use 50 Ohm antena with 50 Ohm cable as modem output is also 50 Ohm impedance. Logoperiodic is better then others for this purposes. Home-made YAGI well known for this bad mismatch issue. I will not recomend to make YAGI at the garage - it require very good experience.

NB! VERY good quality antenna cable have to be used!!!! And not more than 1-2m.

Ok I understand. You are right, YAGI needs lots of experience to make at home and I am not good with radio at all.

I will ask Poynting if they can help me with a log-periodic then, or if you are able can I PM you and you e-mail me some details on how to make your antenna? I can get good quality RF cable no problem.

Somehow I am not surprised that someone at last found some solution to the problems. Thanks very much GRES

I am having similar problems with putty (port# 22). I use putty to remotely administer my box and for some reason no connection lasts past 2 minutes.
have any of you had similar problems? I have mailed numerous request to there helpdesk about this but I have not had 1 single reply to my query, and this is a week later.

helpdesk is about as useful as a handful of rice for resurfacing the N1. If you want action, some but not much at all, phone Shaun Green on his cell.

what basestation are you on, signal strength, etc?, what is your MTU settings?

details are :
UTD Ethernet, Signal 100%, MTU = 1400, Basestation = Goodwood, Bandwidth :), OS = Centos4

Okay so you've set your MTU correctly, it looks good. I wonder if port 22 is being shaped...hmm... dunno. Can any net guru's comment?

noticed that the probs that others were/are having re disconnects from MIRC, seem to have arrived on Auckland Park tower - which is the one I think Im connecting to.

odd that almost every time I find an app and begin to use it thoroughly, suddenly IBurst develops problems with it. Anyone would think they don't want their customers using too much b/w.. but of course thats nonsense :P

Yes I am experiencing that too... changing download clients like I change my laundry!

strange how after my post of yesterday my putty sessions are working like never before.
Big brother might be watching :D

Yesterday from about 1pm lasting for about 1 hour I was disconnected and was unable to reconnect. Otherwise service has been fine.

Ive been up and fine since 9:30. I see that shadowfire suggests this: [09:31] -Thumb.ShadowFire.ORG- *** If you are having problems connecting due to ping timeouts, please type /quote pong 36BA9181 or /raw pong 36BA9181 now.

Hope it maybe helps? If not, it must be Iburst somewhere ;)

tried, i connect but it promptly times out, and i cannot do anything during that time, any other ideas (applies only to shadowfire)

For the last week, since I've been capped, I've been getting:-
May 27 08:12:45 onyxsrv pppd[4349]: PAP authentication failed
May 27 08:14:54 onyxsrv pppd[4349]: PAP authentication failed
May 27 08:15:39 onyxsrv pppd[4349]: PAP authentication failed
May 27 08:16:15 onyxsrv pppd[4349]: PAP authentication failed
May 27 08:16:57 onyxsrv pppd[4349]: PAP authentication failed

This is but a snippet. I'm using RedHat Linux 8 and connecting to the iBurst Modem via ethernet. These messages seem to last for about half an hour to an hour at times, but yet during this time, it still connects and I can browse the web and fetch emails albeit extremely slow. I'm connected to the Primrose tower with full led strength. Any suggestions?

Was unable to connect on Thursday 26/5/2005 from 2:30-4:45
Using ipcop and persistant reconnect every 30secs

Thanks, at least it shows me that I'm not getting a weak signal or interference, but definitely a problem on their side.

You cannot just say that patrick - you connect to a different tower. But I have no solution and cannot rule out either option

Hi iBurster forumites

I would like to close this thread soon, if you still want to post log snippets or give a summary of how iBurst was for you during the month of May 2005, then please do so.

Should we have a new thread [similar to this thread] each month, where you can document the technical problems you have been experiencing, perhaps with log snippets, speed test results, traceroutes, pings, etc? Let me know what you want by posting your ideas here.

Regards

ic.

soon? no no senior poopy pants, she must be closed NOW!

new month, new thread, new problems
