May I us a MWEB email whilst on another ISP bandwidth?

Hey guys,

Ok so basically I wanna know if it is possible to use my MWEB email on another ISP's bandwidth. Such as if I buy say a 1gig account from MWEB, then when its used up I buy cap from Afrihost and start using that, will I still be able to access and receive email in Outlook using the Afrihost bandwidth? or will I need to bu more cap from MWEB to receive emails in Outlook?

I'm not too sure, but IIRC mweb used saix, so if afrihost too uses saix, it shouldn't be a problem

You can receive emails from you mweb email address in outlook on any ISP but will have problems when sending emails using smtp.mweb.co.za, I also got a mweb address and I setup gmail to retrieve my emails from my mweb address into gmail and I send my emails in gmail or outlook and it shows my mweb address as my address on my outgoing emails. My ISP is Neotel and I dont have any problems with my mweb or gmail address and the plus side is that I got a online backup of all my emails sent and received from my mweb address

How would I go about changing this? is it changeable on the router?

I have an email only account with Mweb at R55 /mnth. I use Afrihost smtp server to send and Mweb to receive email.

yes you can use Afrihost smtp to send emails from you mweb address and the pop3.mweb.co.za. It is not that dificult to setup gmail to receive your mweb emails

Well I've been with them since dialup and I don't really wanna change my emails and have to tell everyone, such a mission

Acidb is correct:
Your MWeb mail store will be a POP3 account. It's very likely that you can access any POP3 account from any internet connection anywhere.
SMTP - which you would use to send is specific to the provider that you're using.

Assuming you're running a business and have promoted the MWeb address, I'd also suggest that you also invest in a domain name and email forward package. Slowly change your stationary and cards and let your old clients know of the change. Then you only need to keep your MWeb account for as long as people still use it... generally 6-9 months. That way you can then have complete control over who you use to look after you things. PM me if you need more info on this.

Hi scalywag1,

You may still use MWEB to relay your outbound mail even though you're not on the MWEB network, all you need to do is use the authorising SMTP servers. Handy if your jump around different networks or traveling overseas. Instruction for MS Outlook as follows;

In your MWEB account change -> Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtpauth.mweb.co.za
Under [More Settings ...], Outgoing Server tab, tick My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication
and make sure the 'Use same settings as my incoming mail server' radio button is selected
