Well as the title states, i have this freakin unknown process running on my pc (no its not spyware or a trojan or a virus), it runs systematically and on time every 25 minutes.

I have timed it, opened my task manager (win xp), and waited for it to appear, when it does, nothing appears in the task manager to give me an indication of a name.

It just open's a minimised window on the taskbar for a split second, doesnt have any identifying icon (just the normal windows blank icon), and then dissappears.

Over all it doesnt cause any hassles or any impact on my system, except when I am playing a game, as soon as this bloomin thing appears, the game minimizes and goes and sits on the taskbar till I maximise it again.

I have even set the ATI driver to let all apps run as the same resolution as the desktop, but it still does not help.

Anyone know of some kind of tracking tool that I can use that logs all the processes that open up at specific times?

Hmm. Be very wary of something like this.

Since you don't know what it is, how can you be sure that it's not spyware, or a trojan?

Anyway, check this out, you might find something to help you. http://www.sysinternals.com/ProcessesAndThreadsUtilities.html

Well currently I am running an anti spyware program (microsoft), zone alarm with its spyware program and avast antivirus, and I have updated them numerous times and also ran complete scans and nothing

I would get rid of all those apps ... its probably one of those :D ...
try AVG for antivirus ... and sygate for firewall both are free and excellent.

Check the usual launch points of stuff - like:

Your startup folder in program files.
Do a search through your Registry for a Key match [whole word] on Run.
You'll get entires like :
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Check what these run entries are running. If you don't know what they do - just edit the entry, place a ; in front of the FileName and reboot - if your PC still does everything it should hten you may as well leave it like that.
Also -
Look for a Winstart.Bat file in the Windows Directory and check what it does i f it's not there - good.

What mail program are you running? If it happens every 25 mins, it could be your mail proggy checking for new mail, or the antivirus/firewall checking the mail app which is checking for new mail.

Thisgeek has the best suggestion, I think Process Explorer is exactly the tool you're looking for. It'll tell you wall the process and related file details,

Brought to you by the guy that bust Sony!

Yip going to try these, I have this sneaky suspicion it is my firewall, or the anti virus, but ja. I have used a ton of process checking programs, and most of the processes that run, are inline with what I know on the pc, and expect to run, there is nothing funny sitting in there, that is why I am looking for some kind of logging program (found it in Thisgeek's post), that log's the time each process fires, then I can see what the little ****ens is called, before gun and prince of persia 3 arrives this weekend!!

Well that would have been easy, if I could see what process it is, like I explained in the beginning, it appears as a minimized window on my taskbar, with no name (sounds like a western), and no identifiable icon, only the standard windows icon. Even if taskmanager is open, I still can not see any name, so I uhm have nothing to search for on google, thats the marvel of google

hmmm well if something is open it has a process open so you must not be looking hard enough for it or you think a (certain process) should be there

maybe its that damn sony spyware
sue them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
