Mazda 3 MPS

http://www.audiclubsa.org.za/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1245781225;start=all

Here's another two stories ....

wkw reading is at snail 139wkw was a standerd gti and 137wkw was mps........ask riaan to show you the next time you there.........the 0-100 stats i will have for you tomorrow

Thought I would add my 2c as a MPS owner. Mps is not very Dyno freindly, cos of the TMIC.
My car made also like 140 something at snails stock. Car mag tested the 0-100 time in the hot hatch shoot out at 6.9 secs i think, will dig the mag out tonight and confirm.

EDIT : There's no point to all that 'power' if a) the car doesn't generate it on the road and b) it doesn't translate on paper.

Many credible reviewers have done the 0-100 time or better!
for example:http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/car/06q4/2007_mazdaspeed_3-road_test
We finally scorched a 5.8-second 0-to-60 time and a 14.4-second quarter-mile at 99 mph

Perhaps the local one has been detuned or we have bad fuel?

Read my links from the local testers.

EDIT : It's almost as bad as those believing the Toyota RSI has 141kw - only 7kw less than a GTI - because every site on teh web says so and the manufacturer claims it.

There are sime cars that don't live up to the paper. The RSI is one. The MPS is the other. Not too either are horribly slow or bad cars ... they just do deliver on the promise

Despite 190kW of power the previous generation MPS couldn’t break the 7.0 sec 0-100kph sprint mark when we tested it a few years ago. The new, lighter version however returned a deceptively quick 6.85sec, albeit 0.6sec slower than the claimed time.

Launching any turbocharged front-driver is a balancing act between too many revs, which results in lots of expensive smoke, or too few revs and too little boost pressure. Even when we hit the sweet spot, the best time achieved was 6,96 seconds from standstill to 100 km/h. Though a sub-seven seconds fi gure might seem impressive, our figure was some way off the manufacturer’s claim of 6,1

I've gone to a few dyno's and the 1st generation was actually getting 130-140 at the wheels ... Snails, KARs etc. I know at these car club events they don't have time to sit on each car, so that figure could be slightly out - but that's what they were getting.

Seems CAR and Topcar also battled to get anywhere near the claimed figures.

EDIT : I tried explaining to JK8 the specs on that 'Fastestlaps' site are BS ... they're claimed ... no one (aside from JK8 himself) actually get's these figures

Lol, I have this image in my head of JK8 launching his car and going "one mis-si-si-pi... two mis-si-si-pi... three mis-si 100! omg I did 0-100 in 2.5s!!!!"

They might be "doing it wrong" :D "The Mazdaspeed 3 is only a bit less tricky to launch than a space shuttle" "Pop the clutch at 2900 rpm, upshift at 6000 — redline is 6700 — and flat-shift through second and third (which means don't lift at all — the mechanical equivalent of dropping a Steinway on the clutch and half-shafts and violating our test procedure)."
But in all seriousness i've heard they do badly on dynos because of the software aggressively trying to limit power and limit slip.

I'd believe that ... if they got their claims ;)

But the wkw at dynos ... combined with the almost 7 second times ... and the acceleration that can't pass a T5 .... all points to the the car really having a low power at the wheels.

I think the best would be to chat to the guys on the MOCSA forum, they might be a bit biased though, but they might tell the truth and be able to tell you the complete story..

All turbo cars have a sweet spot to get off the line fast enough.
More so will DSGs, hold the brake then hold it at 2500 rpm + sport mode then go.

Still the Mazda is the ugliest hot hatch on the market...

There was a red Sport for about R240-270k @ Freeway Exotics, near Gold Reef City. Can't remember year or mileage. Awesome car! Google for their phone number.

Their times are always better than journalists so I'm sure they know what they doing.

Found one in Alberton with 12k km on the odo. 2011 Model, white in color. Signed, sealed but not delivered yet :-( Thank you for all the input. Ova and out.

Congrats on the new ride.... Do drive safely.
