Shot in the dark I suppose but I'm looking for a low mileage (10000 km) 2011 Mazda MPS. My budget is 300k. Any assistance will be appreciated.

rofl, firstly how about a location?

have you tried the dealerships for demo models?

and have you spoken to new car sales? from the looks of things new they are R340-350, i am sure you could squeeze a good bit of discount out of that

I would rather go for a Golf 6 GTI, or Scirocco, or even a Focus ST. The MPS is a nice car, but not so nice to drive. Too much power that does not get put on the tar effectively enough. Look do not get me wrong, I love the car and also wanted one at some stage, but I think there are better options out there at the moment...

Have you ever driven the MPS? "Too much power that doesn't get put on the tar"
I didn't get that feeling! What i got was "HOLY SHEAAAAAAAAAT!!! THATS FAST"
I'm not kidding the car is freakin amazing, ask a real race car driver. They'll all tell you the same thing, on a track the thing is a demon and it punches above its weight

That's just cos the power delivery curve sucks and it comes in all at once...

Yeah I have... Don't get me wrong it is a good car. And like I said, I wanted to get me one too. I just know that they struggle to get off the line quickly as the car has a bit too much power. Look I am not dissing the car.. I also like it a lot. I've just heard about gearbox and cluth issues etc....

Weren't the earlier ones kinda slow?

I heard something about owners getting 130wkw and being diappointed

Yeah i've heard of mountings and gearbox yes... but i'm sure thats abuse. They are not that easy to launch but thats because the clutch bites so extremely early its a mazda hate or love thing. Wasn't under the impression that u were dissing it :)

Despite 190kW of power the previous generation MPS couldn’t break the 7.0 sec 0-100kph sprint mark when we tested it a few years ago. The new, lighter version however returned a deceptively quick 6.85sec, albeit 0.6sec slower than the claimed time.

Launching any turbocharged front-driver is a balancing act between too many revs, which results in lots of expensive smoke, or too few revs and too little boost pressure. Even when we hit the sweet spot, the best time achieved was 6,96 seconds from standstill to 100 km/h. Though a sub-seven seconds fi gure might seem impressive, our figure was some way off the manufacturer’s claim of 6,1

I've gone to a few dyno's and the 1st generation was actually getting 130-140 at the wheels ... Snails, KARs etc. I know at these car club events they don't have time to sit on each car, so that figure could be slightly out - but that's what they were getting.

Seems CAR and Topcar also battled to get anywhere near the claimed figures.

EDIT : I tried explaining to JK8 the specs on that 'Fastestlaps' site are BS ... they're claimed ... no one (aside from JK8 himself) actually get's these figures

I seem to remember something about the 1st gen limiting power in 1st and 2nd gear in an attempt to get the power down better. That may explain the weird dyno results people were getting.
