As the title implies, I would like to know pros and cons (from owners preferably) on these two.

Heard that the MPS's handling is crap. Could be worng.
Focus ST is a guzzler 2.5lt, although it's very nice in burnt orange:)

But i think if you are buying the one of the above then fuel should not be an issue:)

Neither. Lumina SS 6.0. Pick up a 2nd hand one for R250 000 with 10 000km and remainder of service plan. :D

One thing that turned me off about that Mazda MPS is thos fakepipes. That was stupid of Mazda IMO.

depends what you want the cAr for , if its just to enjooy the drive with not much space , take the st , if you need the space take the mps.
the cars are totally different , you should compare the focus st to the mazda 3 mps or the mazda 6 mps to the mondeo st (not sure if they still make these!)

6L V8 ... also goes nicely in blunt orange :p

Sure it's a Chev, but man it drives like a monster!

The SS bakkie with racing stripes drove past me in the Transkei the other day... I didn't see it for very long.

I'd go with the Mazda as it's 4wd. I've heard only good things about their handling.

Theres one at Chev next to AAD or Nissan n CT. Looks wicked. Its all magged out and kitted out. Nice! Not sure about the price though.

Until recently I would have agreed with you. However the other day a Lumina was trying to pass me (in an ST) and at the end of a 500 meter straight he STILL couldn't manage to do so. At the next robot he had to stop behind me because there was a truck in the left hand lane. He had another go when the light turned green but exactly the same thing happened - he moved left to overtake but made no impression on the ST after an even longer straight.

On paper the Lumina seems like a far stronger car but in reality up here at the reef it is not, 250kW regardless. More bark than bite, methinks.

Back to the ST vs Mazda 6: Having driven both, I would love to have a Mazda 6. It is IMHO one of the most underrated performance cars on the road. In reality, though, it worked out to be almost a hundred grand more expensive than what I paid for the ST and was thus priced out of my league. Also, and quite surprisingly, the ST has significantly more interior space than the 6. Even though I am thrilled with my ST, I would have been very happy with a 6.

Lol youll went from discussing 2 crap cars to discussing 3 crap cars!:p

Focus ST just cannot be compared to the 6mps. If you have the cash for the 6 and like sedans than the 6 is the one, awd 191kw its matched only by subaru & lancers!!. If you like hatchbacks and the 6 is 2 expensive rather go for the 3MPS or ST they're both nice.

Same platform so handling in both 3mps & ST are unmatched by any other hatch, 3mps has a limited slip diff & a clever electronic system that takes away torque steer and then their's the 191kw of raw power and also ALOT of torque, it will distroy any hot hatch on the market for less $$ than a golf GTI. If you can get a good 2nd hand buy you'll save cause they dont hold on 2 their value as tightly as for example a GTI

Thanks for that constructive input. Have you driven a 6 MPS? It will destroy a crap Polo any day.

Well I think it just comes down to taste, class and value for money.
I would buy a S3 or a BM or Audi and even a R32.
I would never spend R350 000 on a Muzda....

My point exactly. The fact that you prefer a VW does not make all the other cars crappy.

Yeah, I think the problem is the altitude. The Lumina loses a lot of power up at the reef. Down here at the coast it's a hoot though! Besides, a simple supercharger and you're doing 450kw+. :)

Aye, those Mazda engines are capable of a lot of power. I remember the old 2.3 engines. The dragsters turbo'd them and got more than 500kw and they were rock solid and cheap.
