hi folks

looking for some advice here, from people who either own or have first hand experience with this vehicle. Not really looking to get into the petrol vs diesel debate though lol :)

I have spoken to a few people who own 2018 onwards models, and no issues so far. I've also reached out to a few mechanic and one guy who owns his own shop, and also positive.

I am specifically considering one of the below models, really depends which one comes up first,

2018 2.5L AWD Auto
2018 2.2L DE Akera AWD Auto

can you please share your experiences thus far? I would appreciate it.

Hey dude, you might want to check out this thread, quite a lot of us chimed in there.
I’ve got a 2.2D, not the Akera though. Mine is the Active model, which they stopped offering last year some time. It’s a late 2019 which I got with 10k km on the clock and leather seats.

I’ve had it for 1 year now with zero issues to report. It’s smooth, quiet and has plenty of grunt. On long highway drives I can easily get it down to around 6L/100km, even the high 5s if I really try. Suburban driving, 7.2 is where it seems to settle. It also handles rather nicely for an SUV.

I’ve taken it in for 1 service so far and they mentioned doing an update that was needed for the Diesel engines. I can’t for the life of me remember what exactly it was for, it might have been for the oil level alarm issue that some folks have had. FYI the cost of that minor service was about R1300 if I recall (covered by plan).

So yes, in summary it’s been a very nice car and staying under the speed limit has probably been my biggest issue with it!

I had a 2018 2.0 which i sold last year for a 2020 2.5 AWD.

No issues so far other than the plastics like to scuff with your shoes when getting in and out.

Both CX-5's have been reliable - although also new so i would imagine they would be. I've never been a fan of Diesel, but I imagine it will be more economical.

The 2.5 has seen only town driving, but the 2.0 did spend some time in rather bad roads and for a non-AWD it was fine, the ground clearance and approach helps it a lot in that aspect. Its not a "throw it in the bush" type of car but its more than capable when the tar ends and even if the terrain is rather patchy.

They're amazing vehicles and I love them. My only gripe for Mazda SA is that they don't bring a 2.0T or 2.5T petrol to our market :(
