Guys I did a search and found nothing about this.

I have this funny thing happening with the macbook pro CDuo. If I play WOW and the internal fans come on (Say about 3800) it feels like I am being shocked by the casing. But is not like a spark but more like a buring feeling on the edge where the DVD rom is. Weird

I am going to phone the guys on Monday and ask about it.

Any ideas would be great.

Further a great machine and loving the conversion from Win to Mac

Use an earthed lead instead of a two prong.

And take penicillin for the burning sensation :p

:D

If there's only two wires there can't be an earth. One is neutral, the other live.
The earth will be the case or biggest metalic component .. Sounds like something is screwy.

I've also read somewhere that its related to the earthing. I think there was a thread about it in the apple section of the whirlpool forums. Try looking there.

The apple cable comes with three. The earth connects via the metal stub that you see when you detach the cord from the brick. Sometimes people use a generic 2 wire cord which obviously isnt earthed.

Correct. The MacBookPro power brick and Airport Express have earth pins, put the problem is a bit of inconsistency on Apple's part. While some of the power cables are earthed, none of the duck-heads, even those with three pins, are earthed.
The result is that even though the MacBookPro power brick has an earth pin, there is no way that you can earth it when using it with the duck-head and cable supplied when you buy a MBP in SA.
The best bet for trying to earth the MBP is to use the English power cable with a compatible earthed socket - if you can find one.;) Good Luck

I only use the duck heads when I'm travelling. What I did was simply chop off the plug on the cord it came with (I have so many now) and whack on a 3 prong one.

DoH!:) Cord mutilation seems so obvious now!
I've yet to use the cord at all!

OK
The iMac only has a two-prong plug.

Really - strange. I'll have to have a look at my mini just as soon as the set of dvd's I've queued up in handbrake finish up tomorrow afternoon

It is definitely related to the earthing of the device. This is not only an issue on the MBP (I did mention it somewhere else iirc), but on all notebooks with only a two prong plug. It happens to me with the MBP, as well as an older Compaq/HP with a two prong. However, it only applies when I am barefoot ... A pair of shoes/slops takes care of the tingling sensation down my legs :D

lol - is everyone but me adverse to using a three prong plug? :D

Not at all ... I know you void the warranty on the HP/Compaq jobbies if you cut off the original plug. Haven't checked what Apple has to say about it

Really? That doesnt sound right.

Why would you send your cord in anyway? :)

its the truth I tell you :)
When you take in the machine if something went wrong, they ask for the original cable and power supply ... Luckily I have 3 HP/Compaqs in the house, with one cable still in original condition, you know, for just in case :D

Dont worry - assuming the cords are the same I'll send you a spare when I get my new MBP ;)

Believe it, any power appliance is the same - you void the warranty if you change the power plug.... get a DVD player and replace the cord's two pin plug with a three pin plug and the warranty is void - you will find this in the small print of the warranty. I also want to lob off the crazy plug on my power supply's cable but rather hang onto it - am using a plain generic 2 pin patch cord which fits nicely into the macbooks power supply.

I can't use the supplied 2 pin adapter on the power supply then it does not fit onto those crazy multiple plug adapters that plug in the wall.

Did I mention I do not have enough power plugs in my house...

It's strange that you mention this but the last time I bought a dvd player from makro it came with one of those smaller three prong plugs and they specifically told me I could change the plug with no effect on my warranty.

WRT to a mac I've never been requested to supply the cord when we sent one in for service. Even if Apple did, how difficult is it to say its been lost or to supply it with the duck-head? (I also had a quick look at their warranty and couldnt find anything wrt it.:))
