This has been asked before, I know.

Looking for someone in the CT region that can help me fix a broken/bent pin on a LGA775 socket. Don't know who does it these days.

It's an old board, but like to keep it running if I can.

Thanks

If it's bent you can usually carefully bend them back into shape.

A capable hardware technician/engineer should be able to assist. I don’t deal with this level, only when it comes to warrantees. The only company I know personally is IC Technologies in Stellenbosch.

The solution is usually doable when that pin(s) which is bent/broken isn’t used. Interestingly, when it comes to warranties, RMA’s are usually denied under these conditions even when the pin(s) is broken/bent by the supplier/vendor/manufacturer/seller.

You can just slowly tap it back into alignment, if your eyes are good enough.
That's kinda the only option you have with old tech, they not really cost effective to fix so most of the time you need to do it yourself, or trash it.

On closer inspection with a loupe, I could see 2 bent and 1 broken off. So that's probably it then. Damn shame.

Use two needles, straighten these two pins, and try if works. The broken one can be duplicated power or ground pin, if you are lucky, it will work.

Got it working again! Looked up the pinout and it turned out the pins involved are all of the many duplicated power and ground pins. I trimmed off the damaged ones, so they don't interfere with any of their neighbours, and voila! Happy days. Thanks sajunky for the tip.

Good to hear, but I would cut only the broken one. :)

Yes, I was trying to do as little as possible, but the bent ones were in bad shape already. Couldn't get them to behave, so I figured if they're out of the way, they won't be interfering/shorting with other pins.

Just happy to salvage the PC.
