Mbeki 'short on telecoms solutions'

huh .. how does one comment on this.
10 selected call centers get government subsidies ... let me guess Thabo's cousin, his sisters aunts son, all the retrenched Sentechs employees etc etc etc

Coming form a guy who recons that HIV does not cause AIDS what more can one expect...

where does this train stop again ??? .. me thinks only way off is to jump !!!

rpm: "While it is encouraging that a few selected call centres will get cheaper international bandwidth, it does not solve the bigger problem of exorbitant pricing"

Please explain how it is encouraging that the government is doing this?

This is worse than doing nothing. Instead of fixing the real problem they are attempting to divert attention away from the main issue.

We'll always be a 3rd world country at this rate...

How they plan to host the Soccer World Cup if they can't even regulate Telkom is beyond me. I get the feeling that people will be talking about 2010 long after the final player was shot and the tournament cancelled.

Probably along the lines of ... something is better than nothing. Even if it is only just something :D

They are regulating Telkom quite effectively, just depends on which side you're looking from.

It is called SPIN DOCTORING, and is what the ANC goverment does very very well. They excel so much at it that they believe it themselves...

He is short on any kind of solution to any of our problems. I see his speech as a little lip-service before he jets out of the country again. Sadly we are stuck with his uselessness for a few more years yet, and then the chances of getting a better president seem slim.

Zuma :D

Haven't seen any posts about this yet, but does anyone else think Mbeki is secretly saying that InfraCo|NeOTel will be incapable of supplying 10 call centres with their bandwidth needs? - why does it have to be Telkodemonopolies that gets the bandwidth business on a golden platter from guavamint [albeit at an allegedly reduced & unspecified rate]?

Doesn't exactly inspire confidence in either InfraCo nor NeOTel when the president of the country decides to hand the business off to the de facto monopoly instead...

Mbeki 'short on telecoms solutions'

Lets be realistic - It's not just on telecoms solutions that T-Bones short;)

"Mbeki's address also promised that Telkom would offer special low rates for international bandwidth to 10 development call centres to help expand SA's business process outsourcing sector" this makes me ****ing angry!!!!!!! they are really rubbing our nose's in it!!!! **** call centres WHAT ABOUT THE PUBLIC THAT PAY FOR THAT CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mad

It's all talk and no action. Talk about crime, talk about telecoms cost, talk about poverty, talk about hiv/aids. Nothing is really done to do anything about anything. I'm so sick and tired of this crap.
