I can see it falling very clearly in the classical racism definition, although it is not as blatant, meaning he did not use any of the 'forbidden words.'
 
Can't believe people arguing that its not racist, referencing to the past(apartheid) which is full of racism feelings (both sides) will ultimately unlock the racist card which has been handed out in this situation...

Luckily the "racist card" works both ways..

Tito could have said a lot of things in retort, for instance "That point is out of order" or "That point isn't up for discussion in this meeting". Did he do that?? No, he chose to say "Dont talk to me like whites used to talk to blacks", he therefore made a conscious choice to bring colour in to the mix ... therefore he played the race card.

Would it have made it less racist had he said "Don't talk to me like your ancestors used to talk to my ancestors" ?:D

What's racist about it? Is it perhaps the mentioning of the colour words ?
I saw and heard the clip on the E-TV News Channel and judging from what I heard the white dude was trying to call Tito into order in as far as conducting the meeting in a polite manner. I heard Tito saying, "I know how to conduct a meeting and don't talk to me like whites used to talk to blacks"
It's obviously very different from what is posted here so somewhere down the line the conversation has been edited.
From what I heard, he was being rude and should have accepted being corrected. Therefore I feel he needs to apologise.

He was being rude, and the way he phrased it, he insinuated that Mario Pretorius was being condescending because of him being black. Tito wouldn't have said that to a black person even if he thought that person was being out of order.

Sure he was rude, but as I said before, why make the reference at all????

Bottom line: Tito played the race card
 
If Tito just wanted to be rude, there is probable a dozen different answers that would not have referred to any person's race. He chose to identify his own race with respect to the other persons race and use it in a uncalled and negative way. He also used it in a discriminatory way because it was used as an argument to not follow the acceptable procedure.
Simple racism. What concerns me more is the denial of a racist incident (perpetrated by a such a prominent official) on so many levels (including this forum). It almost seems as if some races can not be racists!

Sounds like a Hitler in he making, if you ask me. That remark did sound racist. Mboweni does carry a chip on his shoulder. He blatently refused to change the inflation target to a more realistic one to help out the economic situation in SA.

You realise that Mboweni has no say in what the inflation target is? It is set by National Treasury.

I still don't believe accusing someone of racism is racist in itself. I do agree it is defamatory.

It's not really a racist statement. He is not specifically saying that the white guy is being racist, he is saying that he is talking down to him in a way similar to the way many whites talked down to blacks under apartheid. It could be construed as suggesting that the white guy is being racist if the current social attitude is that amongst Mboweni's peers or what is socially alluded to
in people of different races speaking about each other when apartheid is brought into the conversation.
 
Another way to look at it is whether the white guy would have said the same thing to Mboweni if Mboweni was an older white man.
 
Seems like this is catching on.
I just heard from a friend in SA that he was in a big meeting at his company and a black guy said exactly the same thing to a white guy which asked the black guy to quiet down!!

!!!!!!!!
 
It is alll over the show like this. I f they cannot get their way or feel slightly embarrassed because of ill behaviour they throw the race card at you. They have learned no manners to be ashamed, understand the situation and apologise for the wrong doing.
