I would like to know who has had experience with the 15" Macbook Pro's 1440x900 and the higher res 1680x1050 and whether I really need the higher resolution?

The higher res makes an appreciable difference. Although I must say Lion is very more space efficient than Snow Leopard, with the fullscreen apps thing, even 1280x800 is usable. However if you're a power user and you use the laptop display a lot, the 1680x1050 display is money well spent.

Do you know about how much more it is in South Africa. The standard one is R19999.00

You can't make a custom order with Macs in SA, like you can on the US Apple Store. You can just have the standard configurations.

You want the higher resolution ;)
You don't want a glossy screen ;)

I phoned core and they said I must just email them the configuration I want from the US store and they will give me a quote... Still waiting for the email.

Did you sell your 17"?

You quite a patient guy. I would never buy from them, if any company takes long to respond via email to do business, imagine how long they will take when you have a problem.

Well it was actually zastore, but I spoke to someone from Core, so I reckon zastore pretty much is Core.

I have the 15 " high resolution, anti glare screen MBP. I bought it while in the USA. I thought that rather than have regrets later, I would buy the highest spec 15 " that I could get.

Is it worth it ? yes I think so, I am not sorry I had to pay in the extra for the anti glare and high resolution screen - I know for sure that if I had not bought it, that I would have kicked myself. But that opinion has formed after using it - and we all know that if we use a product that has better specs, that it is hard to go backwards.

I am using it now, alongside my older 15 " MBP which also has anti glare but is standard resolution. There is quite a big difference.

That.

That said . . . I keep finding myself coming back to the idea of getting an Air and afaik those only come in the glossy variety. :o

The Air is a glossy display, however it is way less reflective than the Macbook Pro range, thanks to some anti-reflective coatings and stuff.

The one I was using looked similar to my MBP.

I have been given a quote of R20899.00 for the higher resolution display. Minus my 5% student discount that will bring it to under R20000.00 which isn't too bad. Now to sell my MBP. :(

Which 15inch model did you choose and what changes did you make to your custom order?
