MBP 15" - Resolution?

not a bad price at all.
now I am thinking of getting the same with the anti glare screen.

Hmm yeah not sure which screen option to go for. I think the glossy looks nicer though.

Hi there guys--this thread answered one of my questions: if customization in SA was possible--from what you are saying, it is. So can I ask if upgrading the RAM to 8GB can also be done (2x4GB, Price: USD200) when placing the order in SA? Is the RAM upgrade worth the money? (doing lots of multi-tasking and imaging work).

Thanks
S

You would be stupid to pay the Apple prices for RAM unless things have changed and they charge you the same as the US$ rate. Rather buy it with stock ram configuration and upgrade it yourself for much cheaper. But best you check all this first.

I was amazed, you can get a 4gb DDR3 Laptop module for ~R350 in SA, which means you can upgrade to 8gb for R700!

Which is way cheaper than US$200. I think the local apple shops try and charge you about R1000/GB.

Where did you get this price? Looks like a no brainer if I can get my hands on this.
How about the hard drives? any luck on getting good prices for the solid states? does the warranty get affected if we do the hard drive upgrade? can it be done without sending the machine to apple service?

Yes you can upgrade you HDD without voiding the warranty. Just follow the guide on ifixit.com. Prices are as usual. Starting from ~R800 for a 40gb, through to R1200-1300 for a 60gb, and like R2000+ for an 120gb SSD.

I got my prices from Sybaritic (just search for "4gb DDR3"), and Zaps online.

It's not in their main collection of stuff, you have to search for it, it comes up under "uncatagorized."
