MBSA Managers Suspended

White on Black violence = racist attack
Black on White violence = nothing (doesn't even hit the radar as crime)

True. Even Mbeki and Zuma has said a lot about media perceptions. It seems the said perpetrators of this alleged racist act have resorted to quiet diplomacy! Lets hope they come out with their version soon. I'm sure the media would like that story.

By yesterday, a week later, police had still not obtained statements from the two suspects or made any arrests.

Maybe they're waiting to make a statement to the cops before jumping on the media / racist bandwagon

...police were waiting for a doctor’s report from Qonono and were “looking” for the two men to get their side of the story.

So... nobody's heard their side of the story, but it's automatically an "evil" "racial attack" ??? :(

Yup all thanks to the "unbiased" media reports.

Where was the word "evil" that you've quoted? Oh, I see, you made it up, then blamed the newspaper.

You'll note the use of the word "alleged" in the article - it's quite clear that they've spoken to the one guy but not the others yet. And you're probably right, they want to make a statement to the police first and probably don't want to prejudice their case. Fair enough.

The Dispatch still has a duty to report on the story, as it currently stands.

Well then why didn't they report it as an "apparent drunken attack" on a man by two other men?

It just bothers me that the skin colour of "participants" in incidents is always harped on as soon as one of them is black and comes off second best

[Edit: no-one would even have heard about this if all 3 guys had been black - there would have been no suspensions or police investigations]

Maybe, maybe not. I think that an incident where someone jumped off a bridge to escape a beating would have made the local paper, no matter the race of the people involved.

I'm not sure that they "harped" on the race of the people involved - race was mentioned exactly once, and once again in relating the language the beaters allegedly used, but you can't blame the media () for reporting on the language used in the incident. Hard to say when something becomes "harping" but I think the bar is a little higher than that.

The skin colour would've been irrelevant if it wasn't for the mention of the 'k-word'. The media seem to be on a witch-hunt for racist buffoons, which I don't all agree with but if it stops one person from judging/insulting/demeaning someone on the basis of skin colour I'd say its worth it.

With regards there being no such thing as black on white racism. Racism by it's definition doesn't dictate whether it's one colour or the other. Why is it's existence denied by people on here who obviously have (sometimes self-confessed) racist tendencies?
