Hi

I am wondering if anyone could help me, i am planning to do my MCITP on my own(Not through a college). I have written and failed:cry: my first exam the 70-680 i scored a 460.I'm planning to take the exam again very soon. The books are pretty expensive and i have been trying to use as much free resources as possible because i am just not financially able to buy the text books or attend a college. i have found a few good free resources sites www.itfreetraining.com has been a great help. i am looking for study guides and practice exams that i can you

Any kind of help/advice would be greatly appreciated

Learn by doing as well as book work. Download Virtualbox for your PC and trial version of Windows server and set up a virtual windows network (this obviously assumes access to a suitable PC and internet.) When you're done breaking it or the trial period runs out, tear it down and build it again.

Don't know your level of experience but even if you have been working in a Windows server environment there is bound to be stuff in the exam that you don't use day to day so the above should still hold true.

The way I prepare, and I've been doing this since forever, is to go and get the exam outline and objectives, and study according to that. I've never been a huge fan of so-called "Certification Guides", and although I am sure they have value, they've never worked for me.

I prefer studying the material that focus on a concept rather than a credential, if that makes sense. This usually turns out to be more detailed and valuable than merely knowing enough to pass an exam. Remember, at the end of the day you will be expected to implement what you know, and then you need to know what to do where. Theory is great, practice is best.

just remember MCITP is finishing in July so if you don't complete your cert you will have to move over to msce and start from scratch as it's based on server 2012.
 
Best is to buy the Microsoft Press books for the MCITP course.

Just make sure you buy the Server 2008 R2 books, as some places are still selling the 2008 books, which doesn't cover R2.

And then study hard with lots of labs. I'm seeing people with CCNA certification flunking the MCITP subjects, so it's not so easy anymore.

Microsoft is basically going back to MCSE status, but it will be "watered down".

The best Microsoft qualification you can get, is the MCITP:EA.

But you can only get it until July 2013, so you need to be quick.
 
Thanks for all the advice i will put it in to practice.. i have been doing alot of hands on work with Microsoft,i was thrown in to the deep end at my current job,a year out of college(where i study CCNA) i started as the i.t support engineer reporting to the senior network engineer after a year he left and went to work for gijima. my manager never replaced him and i was left to maintain the network of a company which was rapidly expanding. Thanks to Google, friends and forums like this. I survived till now. we have hired a network engineer about 2 years after the previous network engineer left.

This isn't entirely true. Microsoft is (again) re-aligning their certifications to be more focussed, hence the variations on MCSE (Private Cloud, Communications, etc.) to allow for more specialization, particularly across their System Centre suite of products, which is becoming a very key and integrated component as far as an MS-built infrastructure is concerned.

Whereas the previous acronym of MCSE referred to a Systems Engineer, the new one refers to a Solutions Expert, which I think is very apt. I think MS finally caught on to the fact that any IT professional worth their salt is far from being only a button pusher, and has a great reliance on them from business to not only be able to support a product once it is deployed into an enterprise organization, but to be able to leverage the product to suit business needs.

Am I giving MS too much credit? Probably. Do I think that the new MCSE is a "watered-down" qualification? Looking at the exam outlines for the Expert-level qualifications, I would have to say definitely not.

i am also busy with mcitp: server adming, planned on writing 70-640 next week friday but now im not sure is it worth going mcitp > upgrade to mcse or skip mcitp and go directly mcse route...
 
They way i understand it is that there are different kinds of MCITP and MCSE, it all depends on what you are planning to do.

Here is the subjects I did and the accreditation's i got for those subjects:


647 - Pro: Windows Server 2008, Enterprise Administrator
643 - TS: Windows Server 2008 Applications Infrastructure, Configuring
640 - Windows Server 2008 Active Directory, Configuring
642 - Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure, Configuring
680 - TS: Windows 7, Configuring


Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) Windows Server® 2008 Applications Infrastructure Configuration:

680 + 642 + 640 + 643

Microsoft Certified IT Professional ﴾MCITP﴿ Enterprise Administrator on Windows Server® 2008:

MCTS + 647

and Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA)

Also MCTS + 647



The only reason why everyone is looking for a MCSE is because Microsoft marketed it better when it 1st came out.

mcts 70-640 exam booked for this Friday, busy working through practice test in the MS Press 70-640 book.
 
Passed 70-640 today now onto 70-642 but first I am going to take a nice nap when i get home this afternoon
