Thread created in advance for the new McLaren hypercar, called the McLaren Speedtail.

Here’s what McLaren will call its upcoming ‘hyper-GT’

McLaren Automotive has confirmed that its upcoming “hyper-GT”, which until now has been referred to simply as BP23, will be named the McLaren Speedtail.

Considered the spiritual successor to the iconic F1 road car, the Speedtail will be revealed in full later in 2018. As with the McLaren F1, just 106 examples will be built.

The Woking-based automaker says the new Speedtail will achieve the highest top speed of any McLaren yet, with the “capability to exceed” the 391 km/h achieved by the F1. It will also be the “most luxurious McLaren” ever, featuring a three-seat cockpit design with a central driving position and drawing power from a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain.

The brand promises that the upcoming model’s design will be “flowing and highly streamlined, incorporating exquisite new materials” to facilitate “limitless possibilities” for tailoring through the McLaren Special Operations division.

McLaren says the entire production of the Speedtail was allocated before the car was officially announced in November 2016. Production is scheduled to begin at the end of 2019, with every Speedtail personalised to its owner’s taste.

McLaren Speedtail: name confirmed for 243mph F1 successor

Woking-based car maker has revealed name of fastest McLaren yet

McLaren’s next hypercar, code-named BP23 until now, will be called the Speedtail.

Due to be revealed later this year, the model is the spiritual successor to the F1, which was launched in 1993.

McLaren said the name is “evocative of a peak speed higher than any McLaren yet and sinuous, highly streamlined design”. The Woking-based car maker hasn’t confirmed exactly how fast the Speedtail will go, but said it will exceed the 243mph of the F1. It also said that it will be “the most luxurious” McLaren so far.

The Speedtail’s twin-turbo V8 combustion engine will be augmented by an electric hybrid system, meaning overall power output will far exceed the F1’s 627bhp.

The Speedtail is the third car in McLaren’s top-tier Ultimate Series, following the P1 and the recently launched Senna. This new model features a centrally mounted driving position flanked by two seats, an arrangement inspired by the F1 road car.

McLaren boss Mike Flewitt told Autocar that the Speedtail is “a long way along” in terms of its development: “We’re running the powertrain in a 720S mule. We haven’t got a full-body prototype yet.”

All 106 examples of the car, priced at £1.6 million plus taxes, were already allocated before the Speedtail was officially announced in November 2016.

Those customers will be invited to see the model ahead of a public unveiling. Production will begin in late 2019 at the McLaren Production Centre.

The rebirth of a three-seat McLaren originated with a single customer request, which McLaren decided could be put into limited-series production.

Each Speedtail will be personalised by McLaren Special Operations, the bespoke engineering division.

Unlike the Senna or P1 — which are more track-biased than the Speedtail grand tourer — we’re not expecting a GTR version.

Interestingly, Flewitt said earlier this year: “It would be fascinating to do a centre-seat track car. It would be perfect on a track, and easier to do as you need all sorts of legislation on the road. It’s not planned, or been asked for; we’re not planning one but it’s been thought of. I’m surprised someone hasn’t asked MSO.”

McLaren Speedtail: further details confirmed for 243mph F1 successor

Fastest McLaren yet will arrive with drastically different styling from the rest of Woking's range

McLaren has revealed more details of its upcoming Speedtail hypercar, ahead of the official unveiling later this month.

The Speedtail is the spiritual successor to the F1, which was released in 1993. Its twin-turbo V8 combusion engine will be augmented by an electric hybrid system for a combined power output in excess of 986bhp, far surpassing the F1's 627bhp.

Previously known by its BP23 codename, the Speedtail will have a higher top speed than any McLaren ever produced. The company has yet to confirm an official maximum speed but is aiming for a figure beyond the F1's 243mph.

Only 106 Speedtail models will be produced - and all have already been reserved, at £1.75 million (plus taxes) each. It will be officially revealed to owners in the coming weeks, with a public unveiling to follow on 26 October.

A teaser image showing the Speedtail's eponymous rear end suggets it will arrive with a distinctly different look from every other McLaren road car. With top speed being prioritised over lap times, it is unlikely to use the opinion-dividing additional aerodynamic upgrades found on the Senna hypercar.

McLaren said the name is “evocative of a peak speed higher than any McLaren yet and sinuous, highly streamlined design”. It also said that it will be “the most luxurious” McLaren so far.

£1.75 Million (R33 Million) McLaren Speedtail To Be Revealed On 26th October

The McLaren Speedtail was teased on Friday showing us the rear styling of the new model but for a majority of the 106 customers, they saw the full thing in the flesh at a private event.

McLaren will take the covers off this model on the 26th of October which marks the first of 18 new cars to be announced as part of McLaren’s Track25 business plan.

All 106 customers will get access to the McLaren Special Operations (MSO) division which should make for some very interesting specifications. At a base price of £1.75 million plus taxes, the Speedtail is also likely to be one of the most expensive McLaren’s to date!

It has been sold out since before its initial announcement in November 2016. Those customers should be rewarded with deliveries towards the end of 2019.

McLaren offers 18 carat gold badge for Speedtail customers

The next car set to join the ranks of McLaren’s Ultimate Series is the previously teased Speedtail, a +390 km/h hypercar that will seat three people. According to McLaren, 106 customers have already ordered one and they’ll be able to add, uhm, unique trinkets to their car: 18 carat white-gold badges with carbon-fibre inlays.

The point of such an exorbitant option? McLaren says it’s just one of the innovative ways the Speedtail combines art with extreme performance. The gold badge will be crafted by jewellery specialists Birmingham Jewellery Quarter based in the UK. The badges are available as a set of three; one for the rear and two for the front.

The badges will be laser-etched with the McLaren logo as well as carry a time and place of creation stamp. The carbon-fibre inserts will be formed with McLaren’s “thin ply technology” allowing the front badge to weigh just 100 grams. Those who find this too heavy can opt for a lighter lacquered transfer for the panel.

McLaren boasts this isn’t the first time one of its cars has used gold in its construction. You might remember the 1993 F1 famously had gold foil in its engine bay functioning as a heat shield for the 6,1-litre V12. Expect to see more of the McLaren Speedtail when it debuts on 26 October.

McLaren Speedtail leaks early

Photos of the new McLaren hypercar have leaked online ahead of the vehicle's official reveal later today. Let's check out the McLaren Speedtail.

The McLaren Speedtail is the Woking-based brand's entry into the hypercar segment. McLaren is claiming a top speed of just over 390 kph from a highly modified version and hybrid version of the twin-turbocharged V8 engine that is used in other products in its portfolio.

One interesting aspect of the McLaren Speedtail is its cabin layout. Much like the iconic McLaren F1 from the 1990s, the Speedtail uses a 3-seat setup with the driver in the middle and a passenger either side. There are an array of touchscreens and the cabin can truly be called driver-focused. It appears that conventional wing mirrors have been replaced by cameras too.

McLaren will be building 106 Speedtail models and all have been snapped up despite the $2.1 million price tag. That's almost R31 million. We'll have more details after the official reveal later today.

I hope it looks exactly like that. Those dumbasses who paid in advance would have learnt a lesson...

McLaren must have warehouses full of that twin-turbocharged V8 engine. They've been using it for ages now...what's next, a twin-turbocharged V8-powered motorhome?
