MDC abandons election

easily. mugabe knows no fairness, and only one-sidedness. plus he can wield his sword/country like he wants to.

I cant wait for Mbeki's response. "I was not aware mr tsvangari quit" "We cannot intervene in a sovereign country" "we have to let the democratic process take its course"

This is exactly when we need a strong country to INVADE and remove this monkey from power (I know most of you haven't agreed with this in the past) - but we cant go on like this. Like it or not, Zimbabwe affects us heavily.

No one else on the continent can do it, South Africa is the only country with enough military power and / or economic influence to shut his regime down. But im betting we will just stand back and watch the show. Perhaps it will boil over into a full scale civil war like Mozambique. Mbeki you are one useless BASTARD!!

Mugabe is a senile old coward. I'm sick of this type of child-like mentality that African "leaders" have. South Africa, as one of the most powerful countries on the continent, should have put its foot down a long time ago. It's absolutely shameful that we allowed this to happen right next door. It's a situation that affects the entire region. The main problem is our own round handed loser of a President and Bob are BFF's, holding hands like little school girls while giggling at how they'll show the world. And like Zim, SA is doomed to be ruled by arrogant fruitcakes for all eternity because nobody can move on from 14 years ago.

This is why parents tell their kids fairy tales when they go to sleep. Because they just fairy tales and the good guys never win in real life.

wp gg

zanu pf probably had pre approval for the ANC before the land grabs even started in 2000... they are partners in crime after all

there is no answer, africa will just ignore the situation like they done for a long time now

end of zim, start of the end of South Africa :(

more and more zims into the country more and more possibility of xenophobia far beyond what we have seen so far

agree with killa - if UK+USA don't pull their stinking !@%$!@ finger out of their arses and get RID of that DEVIL its OVER for us in SA...

screw the UN....all they do is talk talk talk and NO action... ZIM is a UN member (25aug 1980) and even as result didn't get ANY flack for the last 10 years!

countdown timer started.

he was 5 days away from election, he choses now to listen to the deaths threats?

rubbish he has no back bone
Wow. In two short posts you displayed completely your lack of undesrtanding the political situation in Zim and labelled the one man that nearly broke Robert Mugabe a coward.

Just for the record, Morgan Tsvangarai would probably not have survived the week had he remained in the run off. His (and his party's) deputy is in jail to be tried for treason, the penalty if found guilty being death. Having been himself arrested several times in the past few weeks alone, it's pretty clear moves were afoot to silence him by any means possible. Death threats when coupled with sinister arrests and violence is probably enough to break any real man. Robert Mugabe came out clearly that Zanu-PF (and therefore by proxy the Zim government) will not accept any other outcome except a Mugabe victory.

How long do you think you'd last in that situation? Tsvangarai probably lasted longer than most would ever have dreamed. Don't pretend to know human nature when you probably have no freaking idea.

Actually if the MDC doesn't participate in the election then they are supposed to win - they won the previous election and the majority of seats in parliament.

Mugabe's rule would become unconstitutional.

Bravo!! Someone actually reads ALL the news. Others need to look up a few Zim blogs and get a real sense of what is going on in that country. Most ordinary people on the ground were begging for the MDC to pull out, and those brave and defiant in the face of the violence would have gone through hell to vote, only to find that their votes were never going to count!

Mugabe said it himself, the ballot is now up against the bullet. Why should MDC sit around waiting to lose to a completely rigged run-off, more people dying, simply to allow BOB to gain credibility from a farce of an election???

I think what Tsvangarai has achieved, in showing the world the proof of what is happening, will be his victory. Finally most AU and SADC countries are speaking out (our honourable president excepted) and the EU, US and UK are threatening stronger sanctions. That's what brought the Ian Smith Government to their knees, and the SA National Party too. So maybe Tsvangarai is playing the smarter game here long term?

I don't know where you got all that rubbish, Sir Lancy-e-poo says there's no problem in Zim and he's always right!

I believe it is for the better. The vote would have been a farce and there was a big chance Mugabe could have stolen it. This way the international community can now look on the Mugabe government as completely illegitimate.... and illegitimate governments do not have a long shelf life. No vote is needed now in the UN for sanctions or restrictions. Mugabe's term will not end in a lost vote... but in a wooden box.

smarter because he scared he will get jailed or killed

COWARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

he has bob beat but he is scared

sometimes bad things need to happen to turn a country around, a country just needs a hero who is willing to die for the country

in the long run the MDC could have changed zimbabwe, all he has shown is that bob's actions are working, the rest of the world might have done something had he won and then mugabe refused to step down

now bob is untouchable again, all morgan has done is show that strong handed tactics work with weak ppl

COWARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i feel so sorry for all those supporters who have been beaten, killed and starved, it was all for nothing
he could have run and lost and maybe these supporters might have felt better, he has betrayed the ppl of zimbabwe

all those supports will not live a good life now, thats for sure

he gets all these ppl to support him and then drops out just before the election!!!!!

COWARD

stronger sanctions are nothing but a joke, they only hurt the ppl of zimbabwe
