MDMA 1.0.0.31 Beta Testing

I guess this could be slightly OT, as I am not using the latest MDMA beta (because I can't figure out the creation of the RAS setting).
What happened when you tried these steps?

This a.m. I had a MDMA 'pop-up' stating that I had received a SMS message on the card I use in the USB modem, using the older MDMA interface. How would I access / read this SMS?
I assume it is just a conformation of a 2.1GB data bundle I loaded this a.m., but would still like to know how to access the SMS
MDMA currently does not display SMS, I just launch the manufacturer's dashboard when I need to read one.

ginggs : I've got a "test" Vodafone ZTE modem you can test with for a week or 2 if you want? ( stupid ZTE virtual lan @#$$#% fail ) its only 3.6mb from what i remember...

Getting a lot less 628 errors if any with the new version. Normally I have to play around with restarting the pc/resetting the modem and phyically inserting/disconnecting the modem. Which of course was a lot of hassle.
Me too with E1820 on Cell C. That was last night. The network was very unstable though. My router struggled for 20 minutes to connect.
I'm glad you are seeing fewer 628 errors, but I'm still not convinced it is something fixed in the new MDMA.
I don't recall seeing many of them ever.

Model?

What are the odds of getting this onto a mobile phone? ;)

I'd love to test what tower my BB is connecting to - because it seems like it jumps around a lot!

Hi, I had a ZTE MF190 too, ditched it after two weeks fighting with CellC since my modem lost internet connectivity without disconnecting time after time if you're not actively surfing for anything between 2 and 10 minutes. The reason why you only see the modem after opening the dashboard is that the modem only gets activated after the virtual cd is ejected. You can test this by right clicking CellC cd in my computer and clicking Eject. It's a real crpy modem, had the same problems with Vodacom sym, three different computers, and they still want to take it in for two weeks to test? I feel like starting a topic to outline what happend through the last two weeks! I eventually bought a new modem from Vodacom just to be able to use my data from CellC.

I'm experiencing some frequent disconnects too, but it's just because my location is kinda on the border of good reception. If I move to a better location I get really good speeds and no other issues with this modem. Did the new modem from Vodacom solve your disconnect issues?

--I must emphasize that the modem didn't actually disconnect, it just lost internet connectivity, so all pages came back with this page cannot be displayed. I had to actually disconnect and then connect again before I can see anything on the net again.

The new modem from Vodacom, "K3805-Z" solved everything, works like a charm now.
Just a pitty I had to buy something from Vodacom to make CellC's package work for me. I guess It's still cheeper though.

your data monitor is busted dude, combined current session data is definitely not working.

It is not intentional and I did not notice this behaviour when I tested.
What exactly are you seeing? Does MDMA just sit there waiting for the device to appear, or do you see any error messages?
If you look in the Windows Device Manager, does the modem only appear after its own dashboard is run?

MDMA just sits there saying “Detecting mobile data device”. The modem only shows in Device Manager after the CellC dashboard has been launched.

I'm looking at extracting the speed and usage information from Windows RAS in a future version of MDMA, hopefully this will make MDMA more useful to you.

This sounds great! I'm looking forward!

EDIT: Sorry for only answering now - I had a busy week and my connection kinda sucks during the day. I can only browse without issues in the middle of the night at my current location :(

Hmmm. downl. the new beta.... Cant seem to get my K3805Z working with it... cant initialize the modem. any advise?

K3570-Z

If you really want some other test devices I can ask?
Are you having a specific problem with the K3750-Z? I'm sure I read in the main thread it was already working with this device.

Doesn't BB already have something like this? There are plenty of similar apps for the more popular smartphones out there; CellTrack for Symbian, Netmon for Maemo, CellID Info for Android, even iPhones have a built-in field test mode(*3001#12345#*) that shows your cell ID.

MJT noticed something similar:

I don't think there's anything I can do about this.

Any error messages? Are you sure the modem's drivers are installed and you don't have any other dashboards running?

Try ejecting the 'CD Drive' the modem creates in My Computer and see if MDMA detects your modem after that. It works for my ZTE MF190.

ZTE MF-627

I use ZTE MF-627 which is detected as MF-626 by MDMA (latest stable version). I can connect to internet but I can't see any data flow (uplink and downlink = 0)

I should try this new beta first, and I'll report back soon. Thanks to graham for pointing me onto this board.
