Meat in Cape Town.

I buy from my local butcher (not in the south sorry). I have given up on Food Lovers for meat, Its dodgy.

Good quality sirloin is about R160 pkg and rump is about T180 pkg at my butcher.

PM me if you want the details of the butcher I use. They supply a number of the top restaurants in Cape Town and also deliver. Quality is the best I have come across, at reasonable prices. I am quite cagey with the details because I am worried they will start upping their prices or stop offering to the public if they get too popular :)

If you are ever out Northern Suburbs way on a Saturday morning, then head to Willowbridge slow market (opposite Tygervalley shopping centre.) Ollies meats has a stall there (as well as the route 44 market) all grass fed, damn good prices and the best damn meat ever, Religiously buy the short rib when i get there in time. Makes a range of sausages as well, the chorizo is good but the Polish Kielbassa is particularly good. The boerewors is excellent but a bit pricey.

is it a secret?

Eish, and here I though our Woolies steaks at R140 /kg is expencive.
Makro is generally not too bad. Look for the Botswana meat.

Meh, Checkers Kloof street has prepackaged rump, sirloin, T-bone, ribeye, hangers, etc.

Large selection, always fresh. I really feel that the specialty shops are taking the piss when it comes to meat. Remember that steak is a mans mans meal, a cowboy, cooked on the fire, bloody indulgence.

By the time you've imported meat from Japan from cows that had daily sake massages you've pretty much walked up your own arse.

Best way to prep a steak IMO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FYZHkjgwdc

I do it Ramsey's way and I always get compliments.

Werda Butchery in Southfield is great, especially their salami sticks. Their cordon bleu is also amazing!

122 Victoria Rd, Southfield, 7800

No - the largest, most commercialized producer in SA using the most aggressive hormone regime.
Not good quality at all.
