Sheesh, Mecer must be the most mis-spelt PC/laptop brand ever! :D

That said, very good price, and they have come along over the years. Decent laptops these days.

I have always considered Mecer a bit dodge, but it may well only be a preconceived idea on my part.

I wouldn't buy that sorry it's outdated not even 2nd generation chip

I have a pile of older Mecer laptops(not working). But their service is apparently the best at the moment...

I had to sort out a Mecer notebook last year and couldn't find any support for it on the Mecer website. Further research showed that it was some strange Chinese branded notebook that was re-branded to something else and then re-branded to Mecer. After that, I personally would never buy a Mecer notebook or recommend one to someone else. I've had excellent support wrt warranty claims and drivers from Acer and will always recommend that brand.

Mustek?

Funny, I've had excellent support from HP and terrible support from Acer.

Food for thought. ;)

I had a notebook that needed a new mainboard, cpu, ram and optical drive. Acer picked it up for repair while I tried to find proof of purchase. A day or two later, I found out that the notebook was out of warranty by 2 days and phoned them to request a quote. Acer repaired the notebook regardless at no charge. Can't really fault their service.

So they picked it up on the last day of warranty? Makes sense that they'd repair it. :p

I also don't get this proof of purchase business in some cases. "Here's my serial number, that's my proof of purchase..."

Keep in mind that there's no OS, DVD writer, separate GPU or NBD warranty. I'd go with 4GB RAM, a less powerful CPU and 500GB HD to have these included.

Also, drivers are often harder to come by for Mecer laptops than the more mainstream manufacturers.

Erm, they all use similar chipsets. Newer drivers are always available from the chipset manufacturers as opposed to the laptop manufacturer that ceases to provide new drivers after a short while regardless of brand. Better to go with the chipset vendor.
