Hi
I am interested in purchasing new laptops and I see that Mecer can be ordered sans OS. This is ideal as I don't have to pay for Windows and then format the drive to install Linux, as per usual.
A Mecer WW650EU will cost R7,994 with i7 Quad 2.4Ghz IB CPU, 16GB DDR3 1600 and a 1TB Tosh 7,200RPM HDD. Ultrabook-alike but with DVD superdrive and a nice array of ports. 15.6'' and it includes a 2-year warranty.
Same configuration but with 512GB SSD is R12,283.
I know Thinkpad well up to T61P and also Dell and HP. Does anyone here have experience with Mecer? Will it last beyond the warranty?
Or should I steer clear of cheaper brands?
