Dare we say it? Free release of Mechwarrior4 cleared for launch

If you've been following the drama surrounding the free release of Mechwarrior4, than you would be aware that the initial announcement, made last summer, was a bit premature. After nearly a year since the announcement came, MekTek Studios is pleased to announce, that Microsoft Legal has given the all clear for the free release of Mechwarrior4. This hallmark movement by Microsoft Games couldn't come at a better time, as the Mechwarrior community is attempting a rebirth, amidst announcement of a Mechwarrior Reboot. Thank you Microsoft.

A few weeks ago we stuck our neck out and announced that our studio was struggling to see this release through to the end. We also released our MekPak 3.1, through our distribution and patching system MTX, which gave our developers an opportunity evaluate any unknown bugs. We're glad our announcement and release worked, and we have many to thank for raising awareness, as the release of Mechwarrior4 is now imminent.

Some of the people we'd like to thank, to name a few, are those reporting gaming news such as Joystiq, Bluesnews, BigDownload, Fragland, Gamespy, IGN, Shacknews, and Slashdot. We'd also like to thank all major gaming forums for keeping this topic in discussion and not letting people forget about the promise of a Mechwarrior free release. Of course, we'd like to thank our partners for pressing Microsoft to allow for the release of Mechwarrior to the community including Smith and Tinker, INC., Virtual World Entertainment, LLC., and Catalyst Game Labs. And finally we'd like to thank our community and the Mechwarrior fans for standing behind MekTek when things appeared to be at their worst. Thank you for your continued support. Im just sad there's soooo little news on Mech Warrior 5. But yeah, been following this for a while on Mektek.... Glad MS has finally given some kind of go-ahead!! Vulture FTW :D
 
I think MW5 is coming or at least, something MECHWARRIOR related because this is what normally happens prior to a release of a game - they release the older versions so people can check it out, story etc and then when the next game (say, 5) comes out, it sells.

It's like a demo before the game is even released.

PS: I think the Mad Cat / Timber Wolf was the most sexiest Mech ever!
 
I truly hope so.... I suppose E3 is also just around the corner right? Hopefully we hear a little more of this then... and the new XCOM :D (Sorry had to sneak that in!)

Mad Cat.... Ahhh yes.... a name I love to hate :D

Dont you mean Mechwarrior Reload? As it is Mechwarrior 1 remastered :P
 
Bud I don't know how you did it.... I carried trying until about 9pm, then gave up :(
2gb? Im guessing thats with Mektek's mech packs?? I googled MW4 downloads and came across another site that had it and the expansion for DL, but they both totaled 170mb :confused:
 
*UPDATE*

We are very aware that some of you are having problems using MTX to download and install the free release of Mechwarrior4: Mercenaries. We are currently preparing a self extracting executable to install the game without using MTX.

This new release will require a new download, but should alleviate any of the issues of installing via MTX.

This new release will contain some bug fixes for Mercs, and we will prepare a patch for those of you who have been successfully installing and updating via MTX as well as executable patches to bring any version previously downloaded, up to date.

Once this new version clears our beta team, it will be made available for download in your BitTorrent client of choice. Please be patient as this may take a few days.

We will continue to work on ironing out the bugs in MTX, until then, we will provide an alternate way to acquire the game and updates through the self installing executables.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Will wait for this as i am having endless issues downloading it with MTX.
 
please keep us posted if anybody finds an alternative download...
