Hi Guys,

I searched the forum and I see a few people with wifi issues on the Mede8er. I bought the 500x2 yesterday and have had no end of hassles with setting up the wifi, not setting static IP's, testing with DHCP which works for 5 minutes then dies.

I have checked the wifi signal on my laptop and phone in the location where the 500x2 is and there is ample signal, I don't want to stream video to it only copy files across and access the internet on the 500x2.

I have a D-Link 2750u Wifi modem, and I am really not interested in running a cable to the TV as the modem is in the kitchen and being a double story I don't have the luxury of "just putting a cable in the roof"

Any tweaks, hacks, suggestions or do I return and look for something else?

I have a 500x2 myself and never had any problems like you described when I was still on wi-fi. But to cut a trouble shooting process short, what do you want to use it for exactly if not for streaming videos etc? Coz that is what makes it a great little unit for me.

EDIT: IMHO, if you only want to copy files and use it for the internet, then there might be better solutions out there - hence my asking

I have movies and music on it which I dumped via USB cause it was a few hundred gigs but I have the odd movie I want to transfer I don't want to mess about with USB cables. Would be easy just to dump it over the wifi. I enabled the NAS function and when the wifi works fr 5 minutes I can see the folders open them and then it just dies.

The internet is just a nice to have, IE for live radio streaming.

Understood. However, I do not have good news for you from my side. When I just got mine, I used the wireless option and had no issues with it. I shortly after put a cable between it and my router. I always had a fixed IP though. Did you download the manual for your firmware version?

never had problems. RMA it .

Or go wired, i was on wireless and went wired and will never go back.

Are you running/installed the latest firmware?

Have you set a static ip? Does this ip clash with any other device on your network? To avoid this set the ip far down the ip address list as the router will hand out ips starting at the beginning of the address range.

What software are you using? I sold the POS Mede8er last month.

Anyway, if you are running 2.10, you are supposed to connect effortlessly, but I picked up a problem with my router, the exact same one as yours. Make sure your router is on firmware 1.70. Every version before 1.70 gave me constant drops.

But my advice to you is to get rid of the Mede8er and build an HTPC instead.

Copying things to and from the Mede8er via WiFi takes forever...

I used DHCP as well and it worked okish.

I would still recommend that you return the device, sooner or later you going to get bored with the limited capabilities of the device, and I guess that a Mede8er is more for people that are not tech savvy.

A Media PC is still the best option.

Ok so, changed the wifi antenna on the 500x2 with another one I had from an old router, identical in shape size only this one is white and its now working a treat.... hmm coincidence? Let me see how long it last for....

Thanks for all the input though always much appreciated...

Is YouTube XL still working on that machine? I have a Realtek RTD1185 based machine and it appears that Google has discontinued support for this site leaving millions of devices now unable to access YouTube.
