Hi boys and girls
Need some advice.

I am looking for a media player that is wireless and wired option.

Must have plex capability

Good interface

I had the Roku 3 that just stopped working so please don't recommend that as their support is crap.

I know I asked some time back and I was told about some options can't remember though and am sure things have changed since.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have amazon fire TV, now TV (roku), android box and raspberry pi. My pick of the bunch would be the Roku and Android box.

Check the Droid TV thread, avsupply is providing decent android devices with good support

So is this the latest DROID?
Maybe I must look at this unit if you recommend it

I like the flexibility of the droid boxes and raspberry pi. Raspberry pi 2 is interesting as they addressed some of the issues I had with it.

The thing about the droid boxes is that they can be unstable, but you can load different firmware on them to optimize, so it took me a while to get mine running sweetly. AVSupply seems to be on top of this firmware issue, from what I have read on the thread, so I suggest you go there for a good read.

Apart from Plex, what are you planning on doing on your box? Am assuming you have a Plex server somewhere on your network?

Do you want to run anything else on it like Netflix?

If my Roku broke now, I'd get a new one tomorrow. That's how I feel about this subject. No other Plex app I've used works as well and consistently as the Roku one.

Had issues with audio on the Android boxes (they don't handle pass-through very well). The Android Plex app is nice on phones and tablets, the TV layout is not that great.

I'd maybe consider a Nexus Player as it uses Android TV and a different Plex layout. It is also quite expensive though.

The Fire TV is just the Android app, and it lags behind with updates.

Thanks Dr i just have a very bad taste in my mouth after the Roku died and it can't be fixed. Their support was shocking. If they don't have faith in their product how can we ? What do they offer like a 3 month warranty?

+1

My roku is awesome. Ive tried my samsung tv and my pi device, and out of those, my Roku wins. My primary apps are Plex and BBC Iplayer...

Chromecast works well with Plex (though you need another device with Plex installed to act as a remote...phone, tablet etc.). I use that set-up in my bedroom with a Roku downstairs.

In terms of usability, I'd rank the Plex variations in my house Roku 3 > Chromecast >>> Samsung TV app

Intel NUC + Openelec
slightly more expensive than a roku or such but the flexibility is great

That's also a great option, except you lose the ability for streaming channels like Netflix. Unless of course you put Windows 8.1/10 on there instead.

As I said earlier, the Roku is one of my pics, it just makes think easy and is properly optimised. I think you lucked out on that one.

I do cast my stuff on occasion, but the fact that you can't do anything on the device itself is a huge limiter. A physical remote and some sort of functionality on the device itself would gave made it more usable

I have a Minix X7 mini. Use it daily including Plex and XBMC. They have newer options now.

Firetv with kodi side loaded. Granted you should have a server that hosts all your media content.

Otherwise build yourself a HTPC
