Hi guys,

I'm looking to buy a new media player. I had one of those woxters but the lightning was to fast for it :-)

So now I need to choose:

1. Mvix 6000 - New for R1550 excl HDD. (No LAN or USB)

2. New Mediagate - Not sure about pricing and I don't really know the make but I've heard some good things about it??? Anyone care to assist?

3. Second hand Mvix 760HD - R1100 excl HDD

4. Second hand Mvix 6000 + 400GB for R1900.

I'm thinking of putting them in this order:

3
2
1
4

Anyone care to give me some extra info?

Thanks

What about the Popcorn Hour. It has received a lot of praise because it can handle most (all?) formats.

Dam that Popcorn hour isn't cheap guys... I don't want to spend that much on a media player... Then I also have to buy a HDD...

What about the Western Digital WDTV HD Media Player - got one 2 weeks back and it's great. Most of my HD movies/series are in MKV format, and this was the only one within my price range that could play them with no problems. It was inexpensive @ R1546 (incl) from Frontosa.

I've got a 32GB mem stick and a 64GB SSD that I use to stream the media via this player (there is no internal HDD capability) - it works really well.

The MviX couldn't play MKV...

I bought my popcorn hour directly from Popcorn Hours website. Delivery takes about 2 weeks, and it cost me exactly R2500 including delivery....

R450 odd was for shipping!

Would highly recommend the Popcorn Hour, especially if you have an HD TV - the Popcorn Hour is one of the only media players that can play MKV files - which all the latest HD content seems to come in!

Was dissapointed that those Mvix's dont play MKV....otherwise they would also be a good option!

i have both the popcorn hour and mvix, the popcorn hour definitely kicks the mvix ass in all aspects.....

the highest model in the MviX range does play MKV with the latest firmware upgrade.

it might but the mkv has to hav certain audio format or else no sound, the popcorn plays anything...no problems....

But the Popcorn and Mvix 780 is to expensive....

I have to choose between the New Mediagate, New Mvix 6000R or second hand Mvix 760HD or a Mvix 6000R

Best one? Mediagate?

never used the mediagate... but I have used MviX and am very happy with it.

Which Mvix??

I have the 5000 series with a 500 GB IDE drive.

But I have bought and set up several of the 6000 series with 1 Terabyte SATA drives.

The features and software is rock solid and the firmware update process is easy.
