Hi everyone

I have been on DSTV for about 7 years now and Im starting to get fed up!

I am looking to switch to Netflix in 2016 but require a specific media player.

I have searched around a bit but can't find the perfect player.

What I want:
Under R1000(excludes any shipping)
Netflix capable(using DNS service)
Composite A/V video
RJ45 ethernet jack
If possible, also be able to stream local media from a windows PC.

Anyone got recommendation's?

Thanks

Media Player

Why don't you get a PS3 it will do what you want and more ... You can get a PS3 system for about R1500 off gumtree or a cash converter ... Stay away from the phat console , get one of the slim line consoles

Ps I know you said a budget of a R1000 but unfortunately if you want to stream Netflix and content from your pc the only streamer I can safely recomend is the PS3 system

For that price you're not going to get much.

I'd recommend the Roku SE for your requirements however sourcing these locally seems impossible.

Drop the composite and ethernet and then you're good at that price point.

Roku 3 with converter for the RCA ,
Or grab a roku2 2nd hand.

Can pick them up 2nd hand since Roku 4 is out , people will be looking to upgrade

My MXQ box does all that for R800 ,ex delivery.

Keep in mind netflix only stream at 480p on the tv box . You also need to use an older version of netflix to be able to spoof the dns .(or block 8.8.8.8 on your router)

Roku seems like my best option right now. Just not so sure if a comverter wil do the job as well.

Chromecast! Way better... Get Plex media server while you are at it (free)

Heard about Plex some time ago. Not so sure about Chromecast though.

use it daily, as long as you have a good wifi connection its fine. Such a pleasure to use the plex interface. I stream mainly 720p sometimes 1080.

Also recently got a roku 3, combined with plex also great.

If you plan on streaming from your local pc, plex is must.

Used a wd tv which is also not bad.

Or even a Playstation TV

Does that have an app though?

From what I've read, it's not a great streamer and although it does Netflix, it does it via the web browser. It works - but the app is a better choice.

Do you have a Smart TV?

No, I don't have a smart TV.

I think I have solved my problem. A friend is maybe going to sell his Xbox 360 for real cheap(R600?)

Thanks everyone for suggestions though...will keep this thread as a favourite.
