Hi guys

I am new to this and have never used Linux before so please excuse any stupid questions.

I received a pc that I need to make a stand alone media player running Linux.

The media player will be connected to a 42" tv screen running adverts and promotions 24/7 so will not be used for anything else other than being a media player.

I have looked at Ubuntu 14.04 and Linux mint 16 but have never worked with them before so it would need to have a GUI. Which one would be best suited for my needs. Any other suggestions would also be very welcome.

It would need to have VLC media player on it and be connected to a network with internet.

Then here is the tricky part. I need to be able to update a media file to run on VLC maybe once a week to over a 100 media players at different locations without going to each location, this must be done from a PC / Server running either Linux or Windows, it does not matter. Is this possible?

Thank you in advance for all answers

Can start you off by:

Use Ubuntu. Easier to get support for it.

I would go with Ubuntu as well for the OS.

For the updates to the files you can probably schedule a script to copy the new files and overwrite the previous. Then script vlc to play the file etc.

Thank you for all the replies guys
