Looking to buy a cheapish media player. Will be used for watching on our SD CRT tv so don't need HD.

What are your suggestions? I know esquire sell the AC Ryan and Mede8er but I'm not sure of the difference an if the AC Ryan will be okay.

AC Ryan, is a decent little media player, i use to use one (Playon Mini), but am now using xbmc instead.. You can also load the Mede8er firmware on the AC Ryan if need be, also AC Ryan's beta firmware for the Playin Mini is not too bad, i haven't had much problems with it.

I have an xbox can this be used?

Xbmc is/was xbox, so why not just use it as a media server.

If you're just going to watch DivX, get a multimedia casing for your external hard drive. It plugs right into the TV and plays it from there. Think it's called iSonic and costs around R430.

EDIT: iSONIC 2.5" IS-MP405 SATA MULTIMEDIA PLAYER

Link - http://www.isonic.co.za/multimedia.htm It's the one on the right.

Otherwise, if you have some extra money, get the WD TV Live. I've got one. Plays everything.

The wd tv live looks really good, but I would like it with the wifi adaptor so I can stream from my computer- I this how it would work?

Yes, there is a wifi dongle compatibility list on the WD Live page. I think 1080p struggles over Wireless N 300Mbps, but 720p is pretty decent. Neither of which you'll be playing, for now.

Where can I buy the wd and the controller?
