Its time for me to build a new media server PC. My current core 2 quad Q6600 struggles a bit with HD transcoding and streaming.

My budget is around R10K.
I will use the PC mainly as a media server for streaming Plex to my 2 TV's and for downloading movies/series. It will also be used as a small home/office PC. My PC normally runs 24/7.
I would prefer a core i5 Haswell Cpu. I already have a 128Gb SSD for a boot/OS drive. I will not OC. I will upgrade my current monitor to a 24" LED screen at a later stage and I'll try to sell my old PC to recover some funds.

Please can you advise on the components and suppliers? I can build it myself or can buy prebuilt.

Thank you

I have a very similar setup and requirement to you and currently use an old mac mini core duo 1.8ghz with 2gb ram and am holding out to see what the new mac mini is going bring and what the price will be.

ok just get the cheapest pc you can buy now. like i3 or even celeron with 8gb ram and then add hard drives. I think i5 is overkill for what you want to do. you don't need a super high cpu to be able to stream media to TV's anyway.

Anyway how can a q6600 struggle with the streaming. I use an old dual core e7500 and it steams fine to my tv and pc's while downloading at the same time.
