Medical Aid ...again

My broker keeps telling me Discovery

Well we have had zero problems with Discovery. My son has been hospitalised 3 times in the last 18mths and everything was covered. My son also had a hernia operation and all costs covered.

At the end of the day all medical aids are good if you understand what your getting. Perhaps your broker should explain the discovery plan in more detail.

I also noticed that the hospital we use charges us discovery rates - not a cent more. They even have a discovery agent present at the hospital to help with claims. My only suggestion is to speak to the hospital you will use and ask which medical aid they suggest.

do the "discovery haters" use the vitality option, the free gym subs alone are enough for me

My broker keeps telling me Discovery

Im with them. Yes, have had my issues...happens with every medical aid...but out of all of them, they really are the "better" (if I can use that word) medical aid.

Better the devil you know than the devil you dont, so I will just stick with them. Thats my 2c

Get a broker to do this research for you. That's what they are there for.

For the R20 to R50 odd rand a month they earn on a medical aid most broker's are very reluctant to put in any footwork when advising on a medical aid. Discovery may often be recommended as they then also earn commissions on the Vitality they are going to encourage you to sign up for...

As stated by others, most medical aid schemes are much of a muchness nowadays. Legislation has stipulated minimum benefits and specified what needs to be covered. They offer various plans that will range from pure hospital plans to the most comprehensive coverage. You will find co-payments, thresh holds, self payment gaps etc to keep you guessing. The range of plans will also offer a range of percentage coverages (ie 100-300%). The idea is to eventually get uniformity across all schemes and then of course introduce the national health scheme.

I have posted this link before : http://www.msit.org.za/

Discovery vs Fedhealth

We are on Discovery Classic Priority atm. I'm looking at Fedhealth's Maxima Standard and it doesn't look bad at all. We are planning on starting a family next year, so does anybody have experience with either Discovery CP of Fedhealth MS when it comes to pregnancy and childbirth/childcare? I have never really had problems with Discovery, and at the moment am happy to stay with them. Don’t want to move and not really get any benefits from the move.

Guys I need a new plan from a new company, hospital plan only please dont say Discovery, I am sick of those thieving animals that only pay 100%, I need one that covers me that pays 300%, something like Momentum? Liberty?

Thanks

what about medi-help?

Quick hijack - if you don't use your 'savings' plan - does it fall away each year?

QFT! My wife works at KPMG and the people there are also complaining alot about Camaf.

I have had zero problems with camaf for the 3 years being on their Double plus scheme. It's just damn expensive  that is why I'm interrested in something cheaper ;)

Nope. Adds on to the next years. You can elect to have it paid out, but there is a sum deducted from that (there are also 2 rates at which it can be paid out, which you selected when you joined, if I remember correctly). You might only be able to do so when you leave the med aid, though. Will have to check and confirm.

EDIT: Referring to Discovery here. Don't know about the others.
