Medical Aid

Bonitas - I moved to them 2 years back (had to choose between them Discovery, and another Medical aid )
Discovery has all the vitality benefits, but I worked out on the plan I am on and what i'm getting at bonitas costed a lot less than Discovery and that would be on a lower plan.
I haven't had any problems with them and they covered so far everything we needed.

What plan you on and how much per month?

Bonitas. No problem claiming for anything including MRI and their premiums are reasonable. Wife is on Boncap option pays about R600 per month, also no hassles claiming. Obviously it has some disadvantages but I think for what they cover, their premiums are decent.

I'm showing around for a new medical... Seem I'm going discovery. With vitality and the rewards it just seems the best option

I've been with Discovery since 2009 and have maintained Diamond Status for Vitality since.
It pretty much impossible to carry over your save medical aid savings to the following year :-(

My experience with Bonitas is that they cover most things except the most important things. My mother-in-law has had to procedures in the last year and a half, Bonitas covered everything except the implants which was the whole reason for both operations. R60K out of our own pockets. You get what you pay for!

GF works at Netcare dealing with medical aids all day and says Bestmed covers more than anyone else. Last I heard Discovery is not accepted at any Netcare Emergency Rooms anymore, you have to pay private and claim back.

This would depend on which Discovery plan you are on. Classic comprehensive and up are accepted.

Some like to hate on Discovery, but my son spent his first 9 and a half days in ICU and Discovery covered the R130k bill without as much as a whimper. I'm not ashamed to say I feel ever so slightly indebted to them.

I think it depends on the option you take. Each one covers different things.

See Sinbad's link... It depends which Hospital you go to, my GF's Netcare hospital does not accept any Discovery whatsoever

Note, those are keycare network hospitals.
I can go to any hospital with no issue at all. Been to both netcare and mediclinic, no fuss. Discovery Classic Comp.

Aaaaaah, I haven't a clue then... I'll ask her the weekend, may have been slightly drunk when she tried to explain it to me. It's really bloody complicated with the different rates and cover schedules etc

+1, Classic savers offers the same. I think the limits only apply if you're on a "Delta" package, in which case you can only go to hospitals in the Delta network.

oooh.

Bestmed is apparently the best one out there at the moment

I don't have Bestmed as a choice.

Need a good broker to help with choice of Medical aid. Any help please?

The network hospital clause is wavered in case of emergency
