Medical aids that don't pay

They're all thieving bastards in one way or the other. You might find that your medical aid would give you grief when you need to be admitted to hospital, but your fiancée's doesn't.

+1. Medical aids today are a far cry from their initial concept to help members bridge the gap for expensive procedures and/or medicine.
 
I don't even have a medical aid at the moment. I'm just saving that cash somewhere where I can access it in the event of an emergency. And its actually growing quite nicely.

I do however intend to get a hospital plan of sorts soon

I thought of that too once but the fsckup is that the hospital can do very little with your Nedbank Savvy card when the find it on your unconscious body, as opposed to what they can do if they find your MediHelp card.
 
What happened to the government's plan for hospital insurance for all, or something like that? :confused:

Or was that a joke?

Sorry, but that's just a really bad plan. At least get that hospital cover sorted out ASAP. I remember looking at the hundreds of thousands of rands my insurance company shelled out after my car accident and realised then and there I could cover my day to day medical expenses (heck you can even put that on your Edgar's card) but hospital cover is essential.

Could take longer with cANCer in power, just look at how much they have done in tha past 20 years....what makes you think such a complicated system with operate perfectly with them controlling it?

With our governments reliability, it won't happen in any of our lifetimes... although we'll pay for it.

I came down with a chest infection in the UK not many weeks ago - Dr's visit and course of antibiotics cost me less than £8 - their system may have it's faults but it sure beats what we've got in SA now IMO.

To be fair, our government facilities do actually have some of the best trauma units in the world, owing to the nature and frequency of the injuries that people rock up with.
