Hello forum,

I am now finished with my studies which means i get to join the working world next year... One big hurdle is medical aid because my employer forces us to use a certain provider, anyhow ive worked through all the plans i found one best suited for me... Problem is it only cover 100% specialist bla bla bla.

Now im in the market for gap cover, i am looking for suggestions from people who are currently on gap cover? Who do you use? Can you recommend any companies? I do not want to go through a broker, i would like to buy it directly from the company

I came across a company called turnberry who offers 100-400% for R120p/m but i cannot find much else about them on the internet! I did a quick search on MYBB, but most threads relate to medical aid and not GAP Cover!

Please help!

Thanks

We sell Complimed. We have considered others but they have no distinct advantage. We also get top service from Complimed.

A client had Turnberry. The contribution was much of a muchness, cover levels the same but they had a lower limit so I'm moving the client across.

By the way, not sure about your reluctance to use a broker, you've obviously been letting other's tales influence you.

You save nothing by going direct (if they allow it?) but lose that person who can do the chasing up for you if need be, make sure all the paperwork is submitted and help with claims. All for the R20-odd they'll earn off your policy monthly.

Thanks for the advice, the only reason i prefer to not have a broker is because i actually prefer just doing things myself rather than relying on someone else! But what you say is true, something i didn't really think of! Will have a look at all of the above!

Thanks for all the reply's so far!

Clint are you a broker? I'm also looking for some cover, could you PM me if you are :)

Can vouch for complimed, saved my ass this year.

Also with Complimed. Never had to claim myself, but my parents are also on it and they've been very happy with the service they've received.
Costs me ~R200p/m for me and the missus. Small price for peace of mind, IMHO.

Son was 3 months prem, they covered the specialist costs for the birth and his 85 day stay in the NICU with a pead visting every day.

Nice to hear, not about your son obviously but the Complimed gap cover. Unfortunately even as someone who advises on using it, based on the benefit offered, you never really know what it is like until someone has an actual claim experience. Always nice to get feedback from clients.

Also check out Instant Life medical gap cover - their online signup's pretty slick and the cost seems very reasonable: http://www.instantlifeinsurance.co.za/medical-gap-insurance.html

Imo use a company underwritten by Hollard. That would mean Complimed (cancer cover only up to R200 000) where most others are R350 000. Look at CURA. Good service and good pricing. Underwritten by Hollard. Can't go wrong.

(And yes we are accredited brokers with 4 gap agreements in place)

Just to clarify
Gap cover only covers in hospital charges....

So if you go to the OB?GYN for instance and they charge R650 med aid gives you R300 you still do no get reimbursed for the differnce from gap cover?

Gap cover is mostly for in Hospital (when you admitted) Some options will pay co-payments for MRI and CT / Day procedures. You are out of luck though for Ob Gyn and any other doctor / specialist out of hospital.

Was extremely fun explaining to a px once that we won't be able to accept her "gap cover"... I swear some folk just hear "buy some snake oil" in between the office chatter and head out and buy it in bulk the same afternoon.

Reviving an old thread....

Urgently looking for gap cover.

Was looking at the complimed options as well as the Liberty gap cover.

Can anyone make some recommendations?
