Private hospital firm replacing staff with AI in South Africa

Mediclinic owner Remgro has informed investors that it has frozen all new recruitment and offered a voluntary early retirement package to corporate office and shared service personnel as it enhances its operating model.

This was revealed during Remgro's 2025 Capital Markets Day. The improved operating model will leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to strengthen Mediclinic's core business by focusing on operational efficiency.

How does this benefit BEE and the employment equity? Malema need to investigate this.

Jeez, some companies will do anything not to employ black people.
You train the AI on black ppl datasets then you get a black representative AI which complies with BEE. This I believe is covered in the EFF employment mandate which stipulates black-trained AI's are acceptable BEE candidates.

"AI will take your job!!!!11!"
No. Humans will replace human-jobs, with AI, deliberately.

That said, I am all for automation of repetitive tasks, like booking management and such.

My managers can't switch on a light. They are prime for AI replacement. Me on the otherhand. I always have to fix all the software glitches and hardware malfunctions. Im good.

Absolute crock of rubbish. We recently went through the entire system with konfabling#3 .

Not one form was even digitised. Paper records are still the norm.

Not that I have a problem with the ‘ol dead tree carcass, but it is factually incorrect that they are even remotely close to AI taking the roles of staff in any way shape or form.

No, the reality is that they are downsizing their staff compliment because Remgro wants out, and MSC wants to take it over.

AI will not benefit mankind. All you AI ball lickers mark my words
AI's words:

AI can be incredibly useful for shorter-term predictions and solutions, such as climate modeling, economic forecasting, and even planning for future technological advancements. These predictions can help us make informed decisions today to shape a better future.

80% sure I got a call from Old Mutual iwyze call center and the "caller" must have been ai. There was slight pause before replying and there was no tonality in its voice. It think call centres are going to go extinct.
