Unit 6 is the first of the six Medupi units that is scheduled to be synchronised to the national electricity grid on December 24 this year.
That was full power (for that unit) I think.I was under the impression that synchronisation will only be achieved next year. Holding thumbs that this overly priced project goes smoothly from hereon out.
nah - I think once it starts up I think it should be fine.I think MyBB should do a competition. Person that predicts the date of the first run of production of longer than 30 days gets a prize.
Twenty years too late because the ANC had (when ESKOM first pointed out that new power stations were a necessity) no mechanism in place to divert funds to the Party and comrades.
“The Medupi engineering team hand delivered the submission documentation to the Department of Labour offices in Polokwane on October 10 and ensured that due processes had been followed and that all relevant documentation was in place to avoid any delays in the evaluation. This initiative shortened the time required for evaluation on site,” Eskom said.
This is all fine and well and adds new supply that the country needs, but in a world where everyone is using wind and solar this does not sound very exciting or appealing any more.
Ya but, on a purely selfish level, SA has loads of coal reserves which are relatively easy to exploit, offer more opportunities for graft and pose a far less danger than unqualified comrades playing with Chernobyl-type technology which seems to be the direction in which Number One has his wallet aimed.
Yeah, I see the wind farm whenever I drive in from the Langkloof. It's thrilling to see that tech and the engineering and the scale. But when I remember it's all so unnecessary, the anger returns. Also, it's a blerry eyesore, blighting the landscape. A monument to folly, in my view.Drove past the Jeffrey's Bay Wind Farm, was awesome. Almost trippy watching all those rotating turbines.

Thats if the dodgy Hitachi welding was fixed properly.
