MeeGo announced

android rip-off? nokia trying to safe face because they know symbian is dying a slow death! and intel as usual are more than keen to jump on the bandwagon...

Does this mean that Nokia wants to stop supporting Symbian at some point? unless they're hedging their bets on two and seeing which wins...

Symbian has already been open sourced. Maemo as it stands is open source, and this is probably just an extension of Maemo. I don't think Nokia is about to kill off any of its three OSs

Well, as I understand it, Maemo was to be their new Smartphone OS. It's basically a Linux Distro based on Debian, that they've obviously modified heavily. Sounds like a great idea to me, what with Android being only "semi" open source and Debian being super stable and very well supported by 3rd parties.
Either way, more options always = better

This is good news indeed. Symbian is still very powerful and will never fade away. Series40 is the one that will see less action.

So far I have only seen Maemo used on the more powerful Nokia Devices and I don't think Symbian will fade away, especially with all those budget phones you can buy over the counter at PEPs, lol :D
