Hi All

I have been searching quite a while for a solution to my problem , but was unable to find one. I apologise in advance if this question has been answered elsewhere on this forum.

1.My XBOX 360 is currently connected to my MEGA 105 router via ethernet cable.
2. My PC is connected to the same router via wireless.

Both devices can see the internet successfully, however they are unable to communicate with each other. I assume that some sort of bridge connection needs to be set up , but i am unsure how to go about doing this. They arent event able to ping each other. So in short my question is:

How can i set up my MEGA 105 router so that the wired and wireless devices can see each other and not just have internet access.

Your help will be much appreciated.
Thanks:)

The DHCP server built into the Mega 105 hands out addresses on the same range for both wired and wireless connections. That should in theory be the start of a connection.

Now, not owning an Xbox I can't advise you further on that, but on your pc, check any firewalls that may be switched on, Windows Firewall included.

Hi

Thanks for the advise. I disabled my windows firewall , and even the firewall on my router just to be sure that nothing is being blocked.

The mega 105 assigns ip's from 10.0.0.3 onwards on a first come first serve basis, and i am unable to ping the xbox , and the xbox is still unable to see the pc (i am running windows media connect , so it should pick it up).

I heard somewhere that NAT can cause some problems, can this be true ? However, as i understand it , if i disable NAT , then the routers internet connection cannot be shared?
Should i maybe set up the wireless side of the router as a BRIDGE and not PPPoE? and then just manually connect to the internet via software client? Or will this not solve my problem at all?

Your help is much appreciated.

Thanks.

I only have a mega 100 so not sure if it is the same...
On the top click on Advanced and on the left on LAN and then LAN Configuration. Make sure both WLAN and SSID1 is in the same LAN Group.

You can also click on Status at the top and on the left on DHCP Clients to see what is connected, and what IP address was allocated.

Hope this helps, but it will most likely be a software firewall on the pc blocking you. If they are in the same LAN Group like above, then the firewall on the mega will not be an issue.

Hi Zamicro

SSID1 was not in the same LAN group , it was unnasigned. I then assigned it to the same lan group as WLAN. Restarted the pc , router and xbox, but i am still unable to ping the xbox, but the xbox was given an ip address from the dhcp server and is still able to connect to the internet.

I then added all the other SSID's (2 and 3) to the same LAN group out of frustration , but it is still not working. No firewall is active on either the router or the pc. I even temporarily unloaded avast and spyware terminater just to be sure:)

Is there anything else you can think of maybe?

thanks:)

Hi MadMouse

I do not have a xbox, but I do have a pc and server and 2 printers connected via cable and a few laptops connected via wifi. I can access all the cable connected devices from my laptop, so I am not sure what your problem is.

Are both the IP addresses in the same subnet?

Hi

I have checked and both are on the same subnet(255.255.255.0). I am so frustrated with this problem , i have tried every conceivable option and setting on my router. I cannot find any reason that these two devices are not communicating.

I have since learned that the xbox rejects all icmp requests , that is why ping wasnt working. Any other way to check if a device is alive on your network except from pinging?

thanks:)

That is your subnet mask. The 255.255.255.0 means that if you look at the ip addresses, the first 3 groups must be exactly the same, and the ip addresses can only differ in the last group. If this is not the case, then the 2 devices are not on the same network segment.

Regarding the xbox specifically I cannot help you as I do not own one. (You can always send me one for testing :D)

Are you sure your router is configured to route traffic between the two physical adapters?

Is the XBox a DHCP client or does it have a manual IP Set?
I have noticed that on some of the Telkom routers if you have manual IP's set they can't find each other.

Only other solution...Get a PS3, or a linksys router :)

After a lot of frustration i finally solved the problem.

The solution was simple in the end. MultiCasting was not enabled, so even though the xbox and pc was on the same network and could communicate , the specific protocol was blocked.

I enabled this via the Advanced->Application->IGMP setting. The moment i switched this one , my xbox and pc saw each other via the media sharing software(tversity) and everything worked perfectly. I watched a few movies this afternoon via the xbox and i am very happy.

Hopefully this will help someone who is struggling with the same problem in future. It took me almost two weeks and numerous permutations to figure this out.

Thanks for the help and suggestions.

Thanx for the feedback. It will definitely help someone else.
