Hey guys

I went for the telkom self install and got one of these mega105wr routers...its not all bad, but its no netgear router

anyways, i have been fighting with this thing for the last 2 weeks trying to set up the wireless

i plan on connecting my phone (N81) and PS3 to the wifi

i left all the settings default, set up normal WPA security

when trying to connect using my PS3, i can access the network, but wen i test my internet connection it is unable to obtain IP address

when i try and connect with my phone, when i enter the pre-shared key it looks like it accepts it but then says WLAN: Unable to connect, WLAN not found...

any ideas?

Thanks guys

What WPA key are you using on the router? There's a bug in the firmware (dunno if it's fixed yet), and the WPA key must be numeric and 10 digits long, exacty. So 0123456789 is fine, but no shorter or longer, and no letters.

tried the 10 character numeric PSK, but that didnt work, will take it back wen i get a chance... :/

This specific router has serious issues with the Wi-fi part. I have one here at the office which we are replacing with a netgear because the wireless is crap.

It struggles to connect to many types of WLAN cards
It refuses to connect to any of the HTC cellphones with WiFi

I threw my Telkom WuRry router in the kaggel and burnt it.
Then I bought a Netgear.

:D

Just flash the 105WR with the latest RouterTech Firmware v2.5.
I am currently using it and I must say it is a great improvement over the standard router firmware.
Routertech firmware is compatible with most Texas Instruments AR7 based routers and can be used on a wide range of these type of routers.
Visit http://www.routertech.org/ for more info.

Actualy hex works as well so ABCDEF1234567890 are acceptable.

I nearly through a Mega 100 against a wall after a firmware update trying to figure that out.

I know there's a bug in the 100WR(2) firmware where only WEP works.... or at least in my firmware on my router... really annoying.

ok, i banged it and restarted it, now its allowing a connection with WEP but it gives me "no gateway reply"

WTF?

Now you're in the stone age Telkom wants you to be. Bang that router some more, see what happens? Or just get a new one from Telkom. Tell them you had to bang it to get it working.

ok, i think its working now with my cellphone using WEP

gonna test it on the PS3 as soon as my gf's finished playing GT5

i dont really wuna use WEP tho, coz i hear its easily hackable...

ooo also think that my netgear will take them an extra second to hack.. shame will telscum rout., blame ur parents' crazy move. lol

lol yea...wat can i do hey

anyways, just tested it on the PS3 and its working

thanks for the help guys

Well, as of today, with the 99.70.4 firmware it's STILL bloodywell broken!

..and the only way I now have WLAN access is by using a 10 character digit-only key. So, hats off to you in particular and this forum in general!

this worked.

it is important to assign a 10digit WPA key and make sure that your connections settings as in your modem are set to your ISP not an external connection on your desktop. also make sure to assign your network name. and leave internet connection settings on "obtain by default" I did this on my mega W105 and never had any problems... if the lan sometimes gives an conflict with ip address then you just change the WPA key to a newer one.. then it should be fine...

While I don't have the same issues as the OP with this router, the problem I have is that the damn thing locks up after roughly 7 days. Can get wifi access, but can't access the routers admin console, and web browsing gets sluggish. I'm almost sure it is a memory leak of some sort.

I emailed 2C Telecoms once to find out if they didn't have a new firmware. I never got a reply.

Pity really, as it's not that bad of a router.
