Work is a pc shop. Repairs, virus fixes....

Now the problem I have is that with especially windows 7 being installed to a customers pc like 5 times a day, the techies plug in the network cable to activate windows, forget to plug it out and then the automatic updates go like crazy. now this is like daily a few hundred megs if the cable is left for an hour or two in. now i can see a million things to rather download instead of windows update. i really hate those updates GRRRRRRR

The router is a telkom mega Wr105. i want to know whether i can include some keyword in the url filter section to block the ip adress or a keyword to block automatic updates from windows, to prevent this from happening. Or any other type of suggestions if possible.

thnx guys

why not just turn off the automatic settings in win7?

i said that there is like 20 different pc's per day and the techies keep forgetting to turn the automatic updates off and leave the network cables in the jack.

make a large sign with 72" font. "unplug network cable after activation".

Or setup a wsus server, or try and make an update image on windows 7. Try vlite, I think it works with win7.

have you tried blocking anyone from going to the update site... can be done on the router..
