Megaserve uncapped, this for real??

Hi

U guys seen megaserve.net. They offer uncapped ADSL at pretty reasonable prices. 64K is about R600 all incl. Has any1 tried them yet. I also wanna know what the ratios mean next to the different packages....

Nice find - maybeee. The 1:12 ratio means that your segment of 64K is shared with a maximum of 11 other people - this means that if all 12 of you are downloading something, then each one will take up 1/12th of the bandwidth, giving you an effective bandwidth of 64K / 12 = 5.3K (Dialup). Of course - hopefully all 12 people will not be downloading simultaneously.
Teklom also uses contention ratios - put they don't tell you what they are.

The home packages seem on the level - but watch out for the compulsory extra R 300 per month for the business packages. I'm going to phone them tomorrow and c what's up.

64K / 12 = 5.3K. That is nowhere near dial-up speed which sits at 56k/s

How can one expect to pay roughly R600 pm and share a 64k line with 12 people which would equate to roughly 600bytes/s effective dl speed??

But that's the Worst case scenario. It all depends on who you are sharing with, and - like I said - Teklom does eggzaktlee the same thing, but dont tell you what their contention ratios are.

This is for the privelage of being uncapped only, not for speed freaks.
They seem to be sharing Teklom's ADSL offering to a bunch of people, and thereby beating the cap and making money on the side (Home Package Anyway).

I'm keen to see what kind of lag times I get to Germany using their offering.
 
stoke : go with storm or datapro! Storm uncapped adsl is R1000 with a dynamic ip and R1500 with a static ip. It think its much better!

I worked out the prices, they basically just use diginets and content them, if this is done right it could be very good but still expensive at current contention ratio's. I think i would be more temped to use ODS or datapro if my needs where so. They actually give a damn about there coustomers. With ODS u not happy u don't pay, that is the business ethic i like to see.

hmmm ODS. how much are they? I know Data Pro are really good. They provide you with a server and they come around once a month to check if everything is good. Problem is they are R2800 and have a 2yr contract!

so R680 + R1000 is R1680 between 4 neighbours thats R470 each which is pretty decent!

Hi All,

We initially signed up with Megaserve for the "business silver", it was ok. We now have the "business gold", this is pretty impressive to be honest. We have been with them for the last 2 months and have found their service to be excellent, NO bandwidth issues.

As our company is VERY dependant on e-mail, we find the national bandwidth to their mail servers lightning fast.

During office hours international traffic is in the range of 18K > 25K, after office hours we get an average of 26K > 31K, close to full speed. We are currently happy, if the service degrades, we will be on their case, but for now, all sweet....
 
18K > 25K - 144k - 200k
26K > 31K - 208k - 248k

Hmmm the way it looks during the day you should get slightly better than a 128k connection and at night a 256k connection

Whats was the price for this?
