so like every one I might get the uncapped service of 384k one with 200 something rand per month
just need to ask if using Megaupload count as violating T&C

if it is , see you MWEB and see you South Africa,

No individual website can count as contravening the MWeb T&C. The T&C are contravened by HOW you use the connection, as explained in detail by the MWeb reps in other threads.

AFAIK, engaging in any of the following activities, amongst others of course, on a shaped "home" account runs the risk of contravening the T&C: bypassing shaping, downloading at line speed 24/7 or using it for business purposes.

If you want/need to do any of those things, then you should purchase one of their other products.

Megaupload premium accounts allow you to choose one of three ports(80, 8080, 1723) to download on. As long as you stick to port 80, I doubt you'll have any issues.

Simple, no where does it say the site is disallowed. As long an he doesn't bypass the shaping on the site he will obviously be fine.

No where does it say using port 1723 on Megaupload is bypassing shaping either... and most people would not know that it is possibly bypassing shaping.

Another question for the MWEB operations

So if I select business or addict package, does that mean I can share account and que downloads?

Same applies - we don't know... those that claim they do, don't, as MWEB is yet to provide a clear answer.

He was talking about the business/internet addict packages, which are made specifically for queing downloads etc.

Sharing the account however I don't know, if they provide concurrent logins then probably, check the T&C's for those packages or phone them.

Then why do they have the same T&C?

As per the T&C on the Addict package
12.4 The ADSL Service is intended for periodic, active use of the internet
12.5 or create an unusually large burden on our network

to mention a few.

The MWeb shaping system is not port based.

does that mean I can share account and que downloads?
If by share account you mean 5 friends pool their resources to buy 1 account then no, not allowed & they will hunt you down if you try.

actually using port 1723 is not bypassing shaping. its a random port which WILL be shaped. in fact, using port 1723 will probably result in worse speeds than using port 80 which has priority. its when you use P2P on a prioritised port like 80 that you're bypassing shaping!

Read the T&C. The internet addict package is unshaped and aimed at users wanting to download large amounts of data, so I presume queuing downloads 24/7 would be acceptable on this account. Sharing accounts in the sense of running an internet cafe or providing access to your entire neighbourhood or whatever -- I'm not sure about this on the internet addict account but I expect it would be OK on the business account.

Guess we need the RJ or MWEB Operations dude to answer,

ok maybe not the account sharing but at least que downloads?

This just proves my point... I mean using a mirror could be considered bypassing shaping - because it' downloads at full line speed, basically, anything you do that'll cause full line speed can be considered bypassing shaping by mweb.

I just posted exerts from the T&C - it clearly states periodic use... and not to burden the network.

You can't presume anything without the risk of getting banned... the shaped accounts with the same T&C also say "All the data you need"

Haha, you guys are being quite stupid about this, there's probably been about 50 people banned so far. All of them, as MWeb said, have been using massive amounts of bandwidth trying to max the lines and/or bypassing shaping. The risk of getting banned is basically non-existent if you aren't doing those two things. We could really end this whole argument if the people who want/"need" to download this much just went into a corner and complained about MWeb all day. It doesn't matter to anybody else except this tiny minority.

If this doesn't concern you, aren't you being STUPID about it by constantly commenting to us about it? Are you MWEB? May I sue you if you say something and it's contrary to what MWEB states? If not, please don't pretend to be smart, you're not saying anything particularly intelligent and your reasoning is not better than ours.
