Melon Mobile launches eSIM and Family plans

South Africa's newest mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) — Melon Mobile — has launched eSIMs and Family Plans.

"eSIM, which is a digital substitute for the physical SIM card is now accessible to customers with eSIM compatible mobile devices," the operator said in a statement on Wednesday, 27 September 2023.

Several Android flagships, including from the Galaxy S20 upwards. The iOS eSIM support on Melon Mobile will be available by the end of the day.

R750 for 50gb and then you just buy 50 sms monthly for R15 to keep the data. Not too bad. Cheaper than uConnect and me and you mobile.

The eSIM works reasonably well. It’s impressive to be able to add another SIM card within 5 minutes directly on my phone.

My experience with Melon Mobile from a data side is that I only get LTE signal no matter where I am. Coincidently, this was the same experience shared in an earlier article on Mybroadband in May.

I like that the data doesn’t expire. That is the biggest drawcard for me — buy some GB’s and then don’t have to worry about it.
