I've got 8 gigs of RAM yet, occasionally windows freaks out about Chrome. Why is it freaking out when barely half the RAM is being used?

I suspect its because of the number of committed MB, but surely if 3gigs+ of physical RAM are shown as available then it should be fine, no?

Chrome crashed shortly after that screenshot.

If you have 8 Gigs of System RAM installed, it still requires a 64-bit OS to make FULL use of all the available RAM, as a 32-bit OS can only detect and utilise 4 Gigs of System RAM, and cannot see any RAM above that amount.

The 4GB limit refers to total addressable memory space and not just the RAM installed. It's a total made up of system RAM, graphics RAM, PCI memory range, ACPI and a few other bits and pieces.

On a system fitted with 4GB of RAM and a modest graphics card with 512MB of on-board memory, the end user normally sees about 3GB of installed system RAM.

So what this means is that the realistic upper RAM limit for a 32-bit OS is more like 3GB.

If you're adding big graphics cards with larger amounts of RAM (or using Crossfire or SLI) then you'll need to be seriously thinking about a 64-bit OS much sooner.

And if you think that your system RAM is the only significant factor, think again.

You can buy graphics cards fitted with 1GB of RAM, and if you wanted (and had the spare cash!) you could fit three of these into a system.

There's not a 1 to 1 relationship between graphics memory consuming system RAM, but the larger the memory, the more the card sets aside for itself.

Now that 4GB limit on a 32-bit OS doesn't leave you a lot of space for system RAM.

Phishing and malware detection on ?

AFAIK, 32bit windows will not register, nor show any ram above 3.5gb. So I am presuming the OP has an X64 OS, seeing he is utilizing 4.5gb, still showing 3gb free. Uninstall chrome, re-install?

Re-enable or increase the size of your page file, just because you have physical memory available doesn't mean you don't need a page file as Windows will still page memory that isn't being used currently.

hmmm....pagefile was indeed switched off - I must've disabled it when I installed the SSD. Good call.

Still don't get why its freaking out with 3+ gigs available. Why would it need to swap with so much mem available?

Oh and yes, x64 and yes MSE is on.

agreed, but who does that these days?
:o People with a 128gb SSD.

People with SSD's and huge amounts of ram :)

Also, certain applications still require a page file, even if it's a few 100MB. In that case, it should be moved to another HDD.

Just moved mine to SSD...windows seems to keep the page file hdd awake. :/

I have to reboot my pc once a day or i get that message.

64 bit windows 12gb memory, sdd q9550. I have yet to find the solution, even changing paging file to 0, changing to 5000 putting in on different drives, i have to reboot everyday.

You don't need a page file if you have 8gb or memory unless you use a program that will use more. If you fix it let me know please, to me it seems like a memory leak. No idea how to plug it :D. Rebooting though is so quick i don't care.

I had the same problem with a laptop at work, also had to reboot everyday tried everything for 8 months. Reformat and problem solved.

Weird. I know in my case its the browser...doesn't matter which one you use, after like 30 tabs open they all crap themselves.

You could automate the restart with a scheduler & the shutdown command....make it restart at 3 AM.

Make it about a GB. Your SSD will most probably last you at least 5 years.
What brand?
Vertex 4.

Odd. I don't have that problem at all.
Thou I do have 16GB of Ram. Pagefile is 128mb.

I got the Crucial M4 128GB :)

I moved my swapfile to one of my sata drives so my ssd was not hurt. No problems.
