how accurate is memtest86 latest version ? if you get errors within 44 minutes to an hour, it really is the ram ? :confused: my ram has been booked in on friday so im just waiting for them now.

i know other faults can be psu or memory controller but i dont have alot of time to test those out.

It is fairly accurate.

I always found errors with the RAM when I had issues with some PC's - and swapping said RAM out for new RAM always cures the problem, and when memtest86 is run on the new RAM, no errors could be found.

But if you find errors on a memory module, and swap it out, but the errors remain, then it might be indicative of other issues, especially if the same RAM tests fine on another motherboard. Try lowering the speed of your memory modules and see if that resolves the problem.

I once had a weird memory issue at one client - but found it was because somebody had overclocked the speed of the memory modules. Resetting the speed to factory defaults cured the problem.

I trust it... I do however try the different programs on the boot CD's if I think something might be up, but generally, it's a very good and accurate program - sometimes you just have to run it for alot longer.

By that I mean;

A PC: Blue screens all the time - run it for 5 minutes you find problems.
B PC: Blue screens now and again - run it for over an hour, you will find a problem.

On my pc I can run memtest86 for an hour and there's no errors. I run prime95 with the third test selected (tests ram a lot) and it produces errors within a minute or so. On those particular settings games will sometimes bluescreen. I had to actually underclock my ram a bit to get it 100% stable, then prime95 and games are fine.
Prime95 is also just easier to use cos you don't need to boot into it, just run on windows.

I don't trust it. I have used it before for testing memory and it came up fine even though the memory was fault as indicated by MicroScope Diagnostics Suite.

i only had one stick to test at the time so couldnt test with another stick.
ive tried auto cas and auto voltage , ive tried custom timings which actually did help reduce the amount of errors from 130 to 44 errors.

if the ram returns and its still goofing out , ill check out the mobo which i highly doubt is faulty.
