I own three (all rescued). And a few parrots. And two massive dogs (all rescued). All in a big house. I have a very soft spot for animals. With my husband, whom I have been with for going onto close 15 years. If that means I am a cat lady, sign me up. :thumbsup:

I never said men were not victims of abuse. I said that women were not perpetrators of violence at the same rate as men [only if you conveniently exclude verbal assault]. We have a long thread on MyBB where many fathers have said the maintenance courts are fair and they have had success there. If these men are feeling so unhappy, they should approach the courts and ask for a review. I am willing to bet they are just here bitching and moaning because they have to pay [you're amazing at reading minds]. There are always many sides to a story [but only your side counts]. And while I can imagine some women make their lives hell, there are many, many more fathers who are absent and don't give a penny [and you know this because .... ???].

Sorry to burst your little bubble. He has a man cave. I have a pain cave. Everything is 50/50. Even our earnings, funnily enough (I lie, he earns like 10% more at present). We are partners in everything, and I wouldn't be where I am today without him. He is the most important person in my life, and vice versa.

Maybe get into the gym, study a little and put your efforts into something more positive, and you won't have the need to complain about how you are oppressed.

ContraPoints does resonate with me in the video cerebus linked. While men and women all face different issues, men are not screwed. Just as much as women (at least in the Western sense) are not oppressed. And trying to say men have it worse off than women (which how this thread really got started if you care to go back) is just as silly as the comparisons are not the same.

When it comes to forming an identity of themselves, I think young men don't have it easy these days. It's somewhat comparable to how young white people in South Africa were left after apartheid came down - not directly responsible for what happened, but forced to carry the burden and blame and reparations for things done by their forefathers; and at the same time told that they are still disproportionately privileged and empowered because of those things.

It wouldn't be difficult to slide into the kind of misogynistic, embittered anti-feminism being exhibited here by technofool, where you blame women and the feminist movement for your own failings.

Often people bring up some questionable and old tweets a journalist posted a few years ago in response to a current piece they put out today. I can't think of a specific example, and I am not going to page through the Covfefe thread to find one. It's not really applicable anyway, as I wasn't following what GBM had said.

I agree completely. But, I really think the sexual revolution has devalued marriage, and any sense of long term commitment. On top of that, we have the impact of the internet and mass communication. We are living through something remarkable, but still need to understand the impact it has on our society. Social media is a blight for young women. It's driving massive amounts of depression, and actually does not foster proper socialization. Which polarizes young people even more. If you recall, I made a post a while ago in one of the mass shooting threads with stats showing that 20% of Gen Z (iirc) don't have a single friend. Think about it for a second. 1 in 5 of a generation say they cannot name one person as a friend. Even the most awkward of us probably had a close friend or two. It's sad really, and shows that maybe we are going wrong.

If you look at the stats of self mutilation and depression in young girls, it is shockingly bad. The book the Coddling of the American Mind digs a bit into this, and how over protecting our children is actually making the very soft kids we are seeing in University today. Male suicide rates keep hitting record highs too.

It's not a men or women's issue. It's a problem for all of us. I think nuclear family units are the best way to raise future generations, and to grow wealth. But somehow we have seemed to have lost family values.

I'm sorry that I come across as misogynistic & embittered to you. If you could give me quotes I would like to change that. I am proudly anti-feminist and deeply regretful that I used to be one when I was immature. I am trying to make amends for my earlier ignorance now.
