They were given indeterminate sentences with an 11-year tariff for Beavan and eight-year tariffs for the others.

Wonder how that compares to actual child rape crimes here on average.
Also, would people here actually be able to prove intent?

No - they were jailed for conspiring to rape. They "identified the children they would target, the location where they would approach them and what exactly they planned to do to them."
 
There's a leap between joking about keeping 10 year olds in your basement and planning an assault. The first is in bad taste, the second is a crime.

What gets me is that the guy who turned them in got the harshest sentence. Wonder what we're not being told?
 
I just wonder about the evidence used for prosecution. From reading the article it seems they had a lot more then just chat logs so its less of a worry.

Maybe more will follow on the story especially on the evidence part. Maybe Hollywood should ease down on these sick horror movies. Some psychopaths are starting to get sick ideas.
 
People have been getting sick ideas since they had imagination. Movies are not to blame. Neither are games or books.

If anything is causing an increase in crimes, particularly of this nature, then it's the culture of blamelessness. If leaders can't be held accountable for their sins, why would ordinary people be? If people are raised without the idea of responsibility then how are they to understand the concept of consequences?
 
exactly. which is why parents should gradually allow their kids to make mistakes and not over protect them. support and direction is better than punishment and closeting.

Almost unbelievable that these chaps were dumb enough to plan all of this in a public forum. Can't help but thinking that these incest chat rooms are like bait set out to catch these sickos.
 
Just a small point: it's paedophile chatrooms, not incest. What I wonder is how paedophiles ever meet up. Surely they must realise that recognition would lead to severe consequences?

Then again, these guys were caught when one of them turned them all in. Makes you wonder how effective cops are at dealing with net-based planning.
