My spawnlette had it last year. In hospital for 2 weeks. Felt like sobbing me eyes out when they told me they have to give her the dreaded lumbar punch. I remember how much it hurt when I had one as a kid. That said and done, she took it like a trooper and made a complete recovery

I had it too when I was a kid, and/or meningitis. Used to literally bang my head against the wall to ease the pain. It was ****ing terrible....

Yeh - was out for three or so weeks, felt like i was dying, I ended up getting these hectic pain pills, they didn't seem to work when I was sick, but I took one the other day, was higher than a kite - there's actually a thread about it on here somewhere - damn doctor didn't even phone me back to tell me what was wrong, and I got a blood test bill for R2500 odd : http://mybroadband.co.za/photos/showphoto.php/photo/7496

i'e heard of many people who have got this, how does one get it and how does one avoid it?

Stay inside and avoid everyone.

The only way to deal with it is to be very vigilant and spot the symptoms early. That way, less people would be put at risk.
