I wish I had bought a titanium ring. I had no idea at the time I chose my gold band but apparrently I'm hard on rings.

I can definitely sympathise here. I bought a 9ct gold ring. I've been married less than a month and the damn thing is already scratched to hell and back. It's not like I do handyman work or anything like that, the most strenuous thing I do with my hands is type on a keyboard.

What is your views on wedding bands with diamonds?
95% of men don't have diamonds in their band.
I have thought about getting one with a diamond. Just a very small diamond and not one of those bands that is square on top. I want it rounded all the way around.

I am going for platinum BTW. Same as engagement ring for the GF.

Well we all have this image in our head that is assosiated with diamonds in rings.

But remember when you put small diamonds in they do lose specially when you work with your hands.

I would want exactly what it says ... a wedding band. Just a broad ring with our names engraved on the insides. For both of us. Her engagement ring can be something more ornamental.

And it must be gold. Like in yellow gold.

None of those other bland looking metals will do.
Worried you might forget her name (or yours )?

Mine is white gold with a band of yellow gold on one edge. It's a bit scratched but who cares.

I had a gold one, but after having to have it cut off the finger far too many times, the missus got me a nice titanium one for last Christmas :)

Platinum is the same price as gold... It's just harder to work with.

+100

You pay more for the craft than the material.

Good to keep in mind you are never going to get your money back ( if you feel the need to re-sell it):D

I just went through the process of having a ring made out of 18ct white gold and platinum is not the same price as gold.

Get it done in white gold then have it Rhodium plated. Gives it a nice white shine almost. That's how I had my Fiances ring done and it is pretty good. You can easily have the Rhodium redone once a year at very little cost too.

Palladium is often used instead of platinum as it's more cost effective. It's stronger as well.

White gold is usually Rhodium plated. The plating wears off over time, depending on how much you use your hands, how well it is done, etc. Depending on what gold is underneath, you may start to get a bit of yellow shining through - so to keep it nice and shiny you do need to get it replated. The colour of the gold underneath the Rhodium plating depends on the exact alloy they use, and it may be quite yellow.

If you go for a white gold that is made by alloying with palladium (platinum group metal), then the white gold will actually be white and won't need to be rhodium plated. So that may also be a good idea.

I'd go for tungsten since i am not too mad about silvery things (though i do have a silver ring, which is quite scratched and irritates me to hell and back when i do scratch it)

So yeah i'd say tungsten :D

Edit and its not nearly expensive as the rest :D

I went around to look at a few rings yesterday and was extremely surprised at how cheap a mans titanium wedding band is. It varied between R250 - R800. Does that sound right?

We had budgeted a lot more than that for my ring. But if that's the going price, then :)

My fiance's ring is Platinum. But for me I dont really want something too shiny or flashy which platinum generally is (personal taste).

O ok.

Mine is a bit bland now, not as shiny no more. But full of scratches and thingies. If I could I would take a titanium ring. My Brother in-law has one and they are damn hard. Not even a scratch on it
